BANDED STEELS! there has to be one place in the U.S. were i can get them... ive been dying to find someone who can band them or sells them already done... so if anyone has any advice (besides that there not legal) it would be greatly appreciated..

Why not just buy wider rims if that's what your after ?..I googled that shit and it looks very unsafe .I'm a certified welder and I would not touch that with a 10 ft pole..

I think its more of having actual steelies that are deep dish then having just wider rims. You also wouldn't have to trip on offset as much, you would just use original offset and widen the lip. I'm sure if it was more popular here and there were places doing it A LOT of people would rock them. But as for now, the cost and whatnot doesn't reason out. You would end up paying just as much as you would for genuine rims than you would for these. It isn't really justifiable at the moment.Originally posted by stretch JDM View Post

It it will be unsafe. Were I live there is a lot of old stock car guy, and they have fabbed up their wheels for what seems forever. It's not too uncommon to see a car being built where they cut the centers out of the wheels and move them. I've seen 1pc aftermarket wheels split in half, and when replacement is not a option, they weld them back together. I know of one wheel that is daily driven that's been like that for 5 years. In my entire area I only trust 2 machine shops to do that kinda of work. We just had a set of 3pc wheels the machine shop changed the pattern and offset so they would fit a Certain way under a new ls460. So it can

Steelies are manufactured by welding together banded steel.
Assuming it is properly welded (key point there) and properly balanced, then there is nothing that would make rocking these any more dangerous than a set of stock steelies right from the factory.
Though, there is definitely potential for novices to try the new trending "mod" and end up creating a set of death rims... but really is that much different than some of the other scarily sketchy mods people put on their car's critical systems?Last edited by cp[mike]; 03-17-2012, 12:06 PM.

I did a quick search.. a banded wheel is a stretched out steelie, I'm guessing heat is applied and a machine makes it stretched.
I do like the wide lipped steelies.. that's y I painted my oem cd5 steelies. They were 15in. They had that nice lip, tho I wished it was deeper.

Naw banded steelies are basically a normal ass steelie that has been split and a band of steel (hence the name) is placed in and welded back together. There isn't any heating or stretching involved.Originally posted by F20A CB7 View Post
