ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    I want to repaint trunk.

My trunk has faded paint on it and i want to repaint it. I have primer, masking tape 600 grit sandpaper, dupli color seattle silver paint. Any advice as to how i should knock it out?

    You need clear coat.
    Cliffs:
    Remove trunk
    Sand to metal
    prime
    paint
    clear
    reattach trunk

don't sand to metal.... try not to sand to metal (OEM finish is a great base) - just sand smooth, then primer, then lightly sand, then seal, paint and clear. I'm assuming you're doing everything by rattle can - sounds crazy but try double fisting it (can in each hand) - less runs.

I just noticed that. Care to elaborate? I used my method above and figured the clear would function as a seal. What do you use?

no, 2000 will be like using a sheet of paper out of your printer, but the right choice depends on what you're working w/. 2000 is more for removing orange peel, or very minor problems - if you have a da or a random orbital you can use 400 round stickys, the primer will do some filling.

Like I said before though - whatever you do with spray paint will have to be removed before a professional job is done.

OEM paint finishes are very tough and are built to last, the metal is treated with corrison prevention - removing it to replace with a very light coat of paint won't last long, so you want to keep the OEM finish and just, I guess, add to it. I know a lot of people here are using rattle cans, but over time the finish becomes pourous and becomes suspectiable to corrosion, by using the OEM finish you could think of it as a professional grade primer...

X2 What did you paint? Clear isn't a seal, it's more for durability, gloss, and UV protection.
                  It goes
                  etching/resin primer
                  sealer
single stage paint or base paint
                  clear coat

                          ^^^^not bad results
yeah, once you get the primer down you'll need to sand again - let it dry, and if you laid it down good you can try to use that 2000 you got, the 600 will probably work better though. If you want to seal it, do it now and let dry, then shoot your paint. Lastly shoot the clear.

Just FYI using spray paint is WAY more expensive than a professional finish - for instance a gallon of your silver is around $200 thats roughly 40 cans of spray paint @ $5 a can and you still would not fill a gallon up.

I painted my hood with cans.you would need one off each can.1 primer,1 color, 1 clear.you should do two couts of each. sand oem paint 2000 grit till smooooth.first cout primer.after 10-15 min lightly sand.rins of and dry.then second cout primer.and repeat with color and clear.after the second cout of clear you can leave it like that ooor lightly sand and add some scratch repare and then wax.and done.
