    I'm ticked!!!

So I finally get around to recharging my ac yesterday and it rocks...

but then, last night, I started my car, and there was a horrible high pitched squeal...I thought it was the belt for the a/c compressor, but then it seems like the timing belt...the squeal gets louder when the engine revs higher...

anyways, I couldnt get to the bolts for the timing belt cover, so I took off the valve cover...there was nothing wrong with the timing belt, so I put on my valve cover, and over-torqued one of the studs and snapped it.

anyways, anyone have any ideas or help for the squeal? and where can I get a new stud for the VC? thanks guys.

        studs are under 'cylinder head'

is it a belt-squeel sounding squeel? then its probably the belt. the timing belt is a ribbed gear belt, not something that can slip. the only way that could squeel is if your tensioner pulley suddenly went from Fine to Dead, which doesnt happen.

tighten (or loosen) your belt and spray some dressing...

Yeah I checked the timing belt to see if it was scraping on something...it wasn't...

I'll check all the belts I guess...

would a leak cause this sound? I took a look at my front end and it's covered with refridgerant spots...and I have no more a/c...plus the sound is significantly quieter now that there's no refridgerant....

mine sounds like that because it has too much tension. im going to rip it apart again tomorrow and readjust it.

So you put more stuff in for the compressor to pump around? I.e., you loaded the compressor? I think you need to look at how tight the AC belt is.
