    Has any F1 or indy cars gone camless yet? Dammit...pneumatics

    pneumatic valve springs---basically the spring is surrounded by gas?...still have a cam yes?

    Acclude91, Patrick, published a pretty long document of his own creation about a year ago, on theories around such an engine. I cannot remember exactly what was in it. But it is published in a thread here.

        Maybe a little similiar, the new Nissian 370Z has a similiar tech. on it's intake valve. They say that it actually doesn't even need a throttle body but for saftey it's there. It is adj. by the ecu, not sure how much max lift is but max for dur. I think was 280.

          yeah he actually spent a lot of time designing how most of the auxiliary systems would work as well.

          his goal was to use actuators and leverage for each of the valves. interesting design for sure, i wonder if the writeup is still floating around...

            i thought I read once about a cam-less engine. It used solenoids to open and close the valves making the timing constantly adjustable and extreme rpm's attainable because you didn't have a rotating camshaft and the speed at which an electronic pulse travels.

              they exist, but mostly in two-stroke engines I think. As for the larger engines they haven't perfected the tech. I think...
