very dusty! especially with 11 people walking around. ive noticed that if i snap pictures as soon as i walk into a new area, they come out best. if i stop and take pictures after weve walked around, i get tons of orbs. if i stand there for a while when its cold out, i get ghosting (my breath shows up!)

ALLLLLLRIGHT!!! This was long overdue, as im sure many of you may know of this place already... this is my biggest update yet!

A long time ago, we met up with a group of people local to the area and checked out an institution called Letchworth Village. We checked out one building on the main road, before being caught and kicked out by a patrolling cop.

Its been a while, but we FINALLY have made it back down there. during the daylight hours, and twice in one weekend no less. So I was able to get a lot of pictures of this place finally. excuse the large timestamp again, its obnoxious but at least its the correct date this time. also, excuse any poor images, i was using an old camera, and i was not using the viewfinder or screen, just pointing and shooting.



Letchworth Village

It was built in 1908 as the Eastern New York State Custodial Asylum and was soon renamed to Letchworth Village Home for the Feeble Minded and Epileptics. It is laid out like a college campus, with separate dormatory/cottage loops and a few central buildings. but mainly its just cottages, like a self contained village, as the name implies, aimed at a more "domestic" style of care. We found medical files for various patients, which included years worth of checkup reports, drug ordering and dosage receipts, and numerous evaluations of their social, physical and mental status. reports of extreme autistic behavior, and frequent seizure fits, and any other number of physical or mental issues. this village was aimed at improving Mental Hygiene, so every patient had a daily & weekly plan of services that they require, such as "teeth brushing time" and learning-classes trying to teach them how to signal to nurses that they are hungry or thirsty. yes, they were this incompetent. and because of that, there was a lot of abuse and neglect, leading to the deaths of many patients. some of them were found out wandering the fields, being found frozen to death 48 hours later, others raping/killing each other. numerous investigations were done and a lot of things were reported, contribution to the push to shut this (and the other) institutions down. i believe it was closed in 1996. so this place has been known to have some sort of a haunted history, so it was pretty curious to check out again.



above is a layout map of the campus. im going to refer to it by using the lettered labels to explain which building each of the pictures come from.

the southern tip, which is cropped off, was originally farm land for the village, but has been converted into golf courses. the left side of the campus (west of LV Road) has been developed into a childrens center, everything else is still pretty much untouched, including the powerhouse and utility buildings, labelled "U" in the bottom left.


the first house we checked out was a very rich looking house on its own property, down in the bottom right corner of the map, labelled "E". probably somebody's estate that maybe had been purchased by the state and converted? i LOVED THIS HOUSE, out of every building ive ever looked through, this was my favorite. if it were possible, i would love to live in it someday lol or at least find out what it is. the woodwork was fantastic, and phenomenal care was put into constructing the extraordinarily complex house. it had countless turns and hallways and separations and rooms and most notabily, closets and cabinets built into most of the open spaces of wall. it was an amazing use of space indoors, with nothing wasted. i think it had more rooms than ive seen in other much larger buildings! the feel and design was impossible to catch on camera, or explain in a post, so hopefully you like the pictures. too bad it just sits now, boarded up, with a sign "JUST FOR FUN BASEBALL" indicating that this area is now only used for its open basebally fields out front. what a shame.

this was a VERY steep wooden spiral staircase in the back of the house, i think it was more of a personal staircase, as it seemed to be behind the nicer, office-looking side. AWESOME!!!

the ceilings werent LOW per se, but just angled with a ton of corners and creases. very interesting to walk around under. notice the very little access panel, these were everywhere.

nice hidden parking spot, behind the large Building "P" in the top left corner of the map. im not sure what this building was, it appears to be a patient house of some sort, with many rooms... maybe an outpatient building or something? i have no idea. its been vandalized by tons of paintballers over the years, including "Yacktown Seniors 08".

i never knew what these were at first, but as i understand it, they were Fluid Waste receptacles. you press the foot pedal, it opens up, and the splash guards open up to either side.
