    THIS IS SO TRUE!

during christmas they open it up, like a circus kinda...the tiger ridge people think christmas is like the most hardcore hoilday ever, so they decorate like crazy. theres this book ro whatever that you have to sign before you go in there, saying that you agreed NOT to get out of your car, not to stop, no cameras, ect ect. its pretty fucking nuts. otherwise, if you try to enter, the people who live there will literally shoot you. it's no joke.

i've been there before, it's crazy. haha.

    here's the story.

WEIRDNESS IS ALL IN THE FAMILY ON TIGER RIDGE
To some people, “Home is where the heart is” isn’t simply an old adage. Rumor has it that in Effingham County, between Shawnee and Clyo, there exists a hotbed of inbreeding so close-knit that members of the clan only have one of two last names: Edwards or Atchley.

Tiger Ridge, a dirt road lined with shanty homes where “marrying your own kind” takes on a whole new meaning, is said to be filled with the type of freakish folks who result when in-laws are related by blood. According to legend, the Tiger Ridgers suffer from dwarfism, bowed legs, and warts and have giant heads and extremities with twelve fingers or toes. Those who have tried to get a glimpse have purportedly paid the price: Tiger Ridgers are renowned for their suspicion of outsiders and have been known to try to pick off intruders with a shotgun.

By many accounts, Tiger Ridge inbreeding has gone on for generations, and local lore tells that even as far back as the 1930s, the federal government tried to break up the party by moving people out of the area. But Tiger Ridgers persevered, keeping their community tightly bound together and fueling derision from more cosmopolitan Georgians.

Perhaps due to an awareness of the folklore that abounds about their kinship, Tiger Ridgers have embarked on their own sort of PR campaign as of late. For the past several years, they have been decorating their homes with intricate Christmas light displays and inviting their neighbors to drive by for a peek at them (the lights, that is). They welcome visitors, and while agreeing that most of the people in Tiger Ridge actually are related, they don’t think it’s as outsiders fear––a current Tiger Ridge resident, interviewed by the Savannah Morning News, called the rumors about Tiger Ridge “hearsay” due to a “lack of understanding.” She also admited that she is married to her second cousin!

Anybody know of any places like this close to Louisville, KY? Other than Waverly Hill which is $20 per person, I'm interested in checking out some abandoned buildings or freaky ass places too.
When I lived in Ft. Thomas, KY there was an old Convent you could see from the highway we used to check out. Huge building, giant stone wall around the courtyard, elevator, bell tower, scary ass basement, gymnasium and sick looking pool. It's been torn down and a retirement center place now but sure in the hell was fun to frequent.

Wow, how have I misses this thread all this time. I was glued to my monitor read and looking at all the pictures. Greatly intriguing. I bookmarked many of the links and want to visit some of these places or ones closer to me. (I'm a few hours from NY)

          Awesome stuff.

apparently i never posted pictures of the Concord Resort that we checked out a week or so ago.

it used to be a big hotel/resort up near all of the casinos in monticello. its since been abandoned, not sure why, but my mom talks about it like it used to be THE place to be back in the day.

went in through a side building that connected into the basement of the hotel.

not much now besides empty rooms, somewhat clean bathrooms, and all of the room windows broken.

the floor of the first building we entered was covered entirely by a thick sheet of barely melting ice. everything in the room was coated in thick ice, including wires and strings and random objects. cool to see. unfortunately i dont have pics because it was too dark, and not too interesting. mostly empty.

the best part was the locksmith's shop, it had all of the keys to all of the rooms, along with racks of the tags. benches were covered in old locks, tumblers, doorknobs, latches, and books on locksmithing and picking

only took a few pictures, so here they are.

            Concord Resort Hotel

here is an aerial pic of the whole resort:

little storage room near the door full of boxes of old files/logbooks

            all the room key tags

all the room keys. too bad none of the rooms have doors. :P

            shop

            work bench

just a cool pic that reminds me of the matrix code falling :P

last weekend we went to the hudson river pysch, i never got around to posting the pictures. this has nothing to do with the concord hotel above, its more from another building at the place further up, where i posted the map.

unfortunately it got too dark AGAIN so no pictures of the outside, but ill make it back soon! my friend john has gone back the past FOUR days in a row, taking many shots with his DSLR... so i should have some awesome pictures to post up soon.

alright more of my snapshots from the

                Hudson River Psychiatric Center

the first place we went into was the power station. HUGE machines, like furnaces 2 to 3 stories tall. covered in gauges and meters and pipes and wiring and LADDERS AND CATWALKS! stupidly i didnt take any pictures looking longways down any of the catwalks, and i didnt do a very good job portraying height, but the ladders continued up 4 levels of catwalks around the equipment, all the way into the roof rafters of the building, which would be a similar height to standing on the roof of a 2 story building. very cool, it felt like being in goldeneye, way up there. the best part was taking a piss over the edge.

looking down from the first level. the blue area to the right is actually an enclosed office... so im about 1 floor up

climbed up to the second level.

heres a pic standing from the third level. you can see im now up to the rafters. on the right of the pic, you can see another catwalk even further up.

pretty high up looking down on some cool conduit. this is where i pissed from btw. its weird starting to pee, and not hearing it land/hit anything for a couple seconds.

one of the offices of the administration building

3 dimensional topographic model map. im sure it looked awesome back before it was destroyed had a lot of detail that wasnt picked up by the camera.

one of the doorways on the main floor.

FS: Vintage Air Conditioners $50 plus shipping. SOLD AS-IS NO REFUNDS

                nice stairs leading up.

what a weird thing to have at the top of the stairs?

I remember measuring out an abandon building one time. It was similar....paint chippings everywhere, trash all over the ground and old furnature trashed... There was dead pigeons and bums that lived in this building i went through. Windows all busted out and shit in the corners.(literally)
                        No pictures, sorry...

now that sounds like a creepy place!

like i said before, there's no good places like that to explore around here, which sucks, cuz i'd like to go take some pics.

went back last tuesday to take some daylight pictures of the outsides of the buildings of the Hudson River Psych.

we also checked out one of the buildings, and got out onto the roof, so i was able to take some nice pictures from up there.

i havent been able to go back very often, but my friend john has apparently been going back every single day for over a week, and somebody started catching on and has been welding all of the doors and windows shut. so he kinda fucked it up for me and i dont think im going to be able to go back any more :'( ill just not tell him when i go back down to Letchworth.

                                anyway heres the pics...
