it varies lmao... some are left wide open: 100_0997.JPG while others are double-padlocked 100_1011B.JPG (note the two shiny connections between the two doors)

                    well allllllllrightey.

got to explore the Greystone Psychiatric Center last night with a couple friends.

for the most part, the place really wasnt all that fantastic. it used to be a HUUUUUGE psych center built back in the late 1870s, but within the past few years, they began reusing some of the buildings, as well as demolishing and rebuilding others on the campus. so technically its still called the same name, and still in use... but if you follow the roads around to the back, its all dark back there, and theres a few empty buildings.

we were in the first one we found, but they actually already began working on it, so they had gone through and emptied every room and knocked some of the walls and windows out already.

we were walking around on the second floor, when out the window, we noticed a cop car drive up the dirt road that we were parked on. he saw my car, flipped around and sped off quick... (im pretty sure its not legal to enter a fenced-off KEEP OUT area) so we bolted to the car and left and actually passed him on the way out, while he was heading back towards the building he saw our car at. he followed us out, but didnt bother us. we went back a couple more times scoping out places to park or check out, but there were cops ALLL OVER the place back there, as well as a number of very suspicious people staring out windows... got a bad feeling from it, so we left. but hey we got some pictures and got to see what it was all about. but i dont think we will be returning there anytime soon. the most enjoyable part of the night was the adventure we had trying to avoid cops, and the craziness that went on at the diner afterward, but thats another story.

                    anyhoo...

                    Greystone Psychiatric Center

                    heres an aerial pic:

the only things still in the building are in a huge pile by the back door, for some reason labelled "attic treasures" ... didnt find anything cool in there :\

im guessing they expect you to shit on the floor, but at least you can wipe yourself.

this urinal was SO WEIRD!!! you step on the foot lever, and the lid folds open, and these arms fold out and become splash guards along the sides... weird contraption, and im not sure why a urinal would need a lid? i should have taken a picture of it open.

                    dark scary hallways...

                    a vault/safe door.

this part of the building started to collapse, and it took the piping with it.

i accidentally fell asleep in the bathroom, woke up 30 years later...

                      hey.

i was actually discussing this photo with a friend, who happens to believe in ghosts:

now... ORBS are perfectly explainable flash reflections off dust particles. theory supported by many other people, as well as the fact that they mostly show up in the basement rooms that are very dusty, with stagnant gross air. show up much more commonly after weve moved around the room.

NOW... as far as that mist... i was confused by it for a while. i had no explanation. there was no visible smoke or mist, and it did not show up in the pictures before or after it.

but i think i have an explanation: my breath.

for the majority of my pictures, i just held up the camera without any viewfinder and just took a picture, then i moved on as i continued exploring.

for the image above as well as the laundry chute picture, they were actually second/third pictures i took, after i stood in place for a few seconds, adjusting the angle until the picture came out good. in both cases, the first picture came out clear, but way too off-center to keep. but as i stood there lining up for a second shot, perhaps my breath made its way out past the camera at the right time to be picked up by the picture. it WAS cold in there, and we all take cold-air-breath for granted because its something that happens as we breathe second naturely, and it goes away almost instantly.

so.... that sounds like a very very very plausible explanation for the "mist" found in those two pictures...

sorry guys. my camera is blowtastic and i havent been bringing it. ive gone back to the middletown psych center a couple more times, last night, as well as last weekend. finally got into the last three buildings (that i know of) that are empty and worth checking out on the grounds. i got a map off the wall of the big one theres a lot of good photo opportunities, im going back sometime when its light out to take better pictures.

if i check out anywhere new ill be sure to get pics up.
