Going to school to become a pharmacist, feedback plz!

Ok, I've tried the career game out, I can't really find anything special with my lack of experience and education. I'm only 20, and I have my whole life ahead of me. I decided last week that I want to go to school to be a pharmacist. So, before I take the plunge and enroll for school (it won't be until next august though), I want to know some certain stuff (if anyone here knows).

1) I have a HS diploma, but nothing else, how long would I have to school for?

2) I would like some of your guys' opinions on my choice, I know its ultimately my decision, but still some opinions are good (since no one else in my life has said anything about it at all).

3) What can I expect? (I know there's going to be a lot of chemistry, which i HATE, but I can make it through it).

I know I could have searched, but I just really want some feedback on it, opinions especially because its a big step, and a lot of schooling. As always, thanks guys!

I'm taking up Pharmacy Tech this current semester. I think it will be the same as the Pharmacist and expected to learn more. You will learn the following I have learned so far.

- OTC , Rx , brand and generic drugs
- Learn the top 200 drugs
- Direct to consumer marketing
- How drugs are classifies
- Drug labels
- Sound alike / look alike drugs
- Legislation and control
- Recalls
- Purchasing and inventory
- Dosage forms
- Dosage calculations
- Determine of the dosage is safe or not
- Wholesalers
- Drug arrangement
- NDC/UPC Manufacturers
- Controlled Substances
- Fast tracking , Orphan drugs
- Gregg & Schumer Act
- Binging a drug to market.

You will also study.
- Drug dispensing and calculating
- Ambulatory Pharmacy
- Pharmaceuticals
- Clinical Experience

My suggestion: Learn the brand name and generic name of drugs. They won't tolerate wrong spelling of course.

If you are determined enough you could take it down to 2 to 3 years.

It's easy , you just need a lil effort and don't fool around.

It depends.. I study on a Junior college so I pay atleast 600 semester including all the "expensive" books. I applied for a financial aid so my enrollment fees are refunded and an extra grand was in

Hmm... I guess I'll have to do some research. I might end up going to the university of arizona to study.

my dad's a pharmicist and hes worked for Kaiser which are under a union and they do not want to work at all so he liked the private companies much better aka Walgreens, albertsons, safeway and Longs.

he also does a little bit of agent work and gets paid crazy for mileage, food and hotel stay. so sometimes ill drive him up to Redding which is about 4-5 hours and ill get 100-200 and he still makes money

but he had to go through basic college getting a bachelors as a chemistry major, ugggh...

then off to pharmacy school in idaho state.
i dont think it is 3 years, plus you'll need to get certain certifications and stuff.

but yea, good money...lets just say he can make enough to get a plane ticket to HongKong everyday. he also got an award this year for running the most efficient pharmacy in norcal *respect*

seriously though, get your schooling and make some serious dough when you're done. You can make 120k after a few years and getting more established in the career.
