Its not starting out so good

well i picked mike(deever) from the airport around 930ish.. i waited from 820 or so till 930 since his plane was late...
we drove to my house... exposed the third gen accord..popped the hood.. showed al of its defects etc..turned it on.. ran it.... got some gas... some hamburgers.. talked for a while.. and we were on our way back home.... shaked hands.. wished we could spend more time together..

    and he was off..

i come inside get online.. 15min later i get a PM from his friend.. where he is staying.. apparently the 3g began bucking back and forth after 15minutes of driving.. not.. motor wise bucking as if the motor is damaged but.. something suspension or drivetrain wise im assuming..

so.. mike calls me.. hes explaining the symptoms im at a total loss since this has never happend to me.. in the time ive owned it.. then again.. its been garaged kept for some time.. but i still drive the bastard.. pretty hard at that.. around my neighborhood to make sure the car is fine..

so.. he drives it at like 30mph some more.. then calls me back.. as he pulls over to check it.. i keep asking him what does he want me to do... im at a total loss.. i wanted him to turn around when the car first had the symptoms..but he wanted to get off at the next exit off the turnpike and check it out with some lighting...

so he drove some more.. finally desiding to have it towed to the place he is staying.. roughly 2.5hrs

im estimating its gonna csot him around 500 to tow it alone..
i talked to zigen and cpmike.. we all kinda feel its either

    axle
    bearing
    clutch..

but then im thinking.. what makes the difference that he was driving it at 75mph.. when ive driven the car at 60mph..

so thats where we are at now..

i feel so helpless.. and like i unno.. as if i fucked him over un-intentionally.. if i would of know something like that was gonna happen i wouldnt of let him drive the car away.. i swear to god..

flame if you wish.. i probably deserve it..

edit: yet my mom had the balls to say.. if i didnt sell it i could of jsut gotten my license and drove it 2morrow to work.. riiiight.. 15minutes into driving that would of happend to me..

all that lecturing abotu me not needing to sell it. im gonna own her ass 2morrow about this.. anyway..

anyone know what it could be??? i need some real gurus here...

75mph cruising began bucking as if.. u were on the sides of the turnpike.. u know.. the lil ridged area? thats made to wake ppl up?? well like that.

well i know mike, and im pretty sure he wont hate you or anything... he knows you better than that, this wasnt intential... it happens... bleh... after my swap, i ran completely out of money... then i had to spend 100 to get my car towed, 100 that i didnt have. it happens.

keep us (at least me) updated, itll be figured out soon enough.

update for the nite before i got to sleep. i dont want to.. but i have to be up at 7am for work.. so i have no choice..

well..apparently his AAA car is still good so the price will be less.. for the towing.. im praying as well as u guys should its an axle..
both cpmike and zigen got their axles for 120 a pair..
so if its an axle im not TOO worried..

im gonna go and TRY to go to sleep..

Bucking at 75? When was the last time you had your tires balanced? You're going to hell.

                Update:
Ok, Carlos is at work now I believe, so I guess he'll learn when he gets home.

4:30 AM - got to Ryan's house 130 miles away from where we broke down (we stopped the car a few miles after the problem, we drove bumpily for quite some time at 20mph.... in a 70mph zone... getting beeped at, tailgated, and nearly hit quite a few times.) The towtruck guy was cool as hell, so the 2.5 hour drive in his bumpy truck (almost as bumpy as the damn car!) was fairly pleasant.

Luckily, the tow was far less than it would have been without AAA... It would have been over $500 to tow my car 130 miles the guy said!

Anyway, I woke up today and looked at the car. Went to Target (the closest thing to a real store around here) and grabbed an emergency car kit with a tire pump and a lug wrench (which apparently wasn't in the trunk...)

SO... After all that... We took the rear driver's side wheel off. That's where the problem seemed to be coming from. First of all, that wheel had one lugnut that was the wrong size, just spinning freely (the front had that too, I'll get there in a minute...). The rear tire was bulged out, and rediculously overinflated (60psi, instead of the required 26psi!) It looked like the wheel of an ATV or something. I dropped the pressure to normal, but something inside the tire was busted, so it's shot. The spare in the trunk was full size, and looked pretty nice, but it was flat. The air pump was useless because the cigarette lighter doesn't work. Ryan doesn't have a car, so we're currently waiting for his neighbor to get home.

ALL of the tires were inflated to 60psi. The front passenger side tire is nearly bald on the inside. BOTH front wheels are missing a post, so there are only 3 lugs holding each on. The driver's side wheel technically only has 2 lugs holding it, since it also has one of those large, free-spinning ones on there!

Honestly, after going as fast as 80mph on wheels and tires like that, I'm happy to be alive. If we weren't traveling in the middle of the night, things may have gone differently... The lack of traffic definitely helped save us.

Carlos, I can't blame you anymore than I can blame myself. I looked the car over, and drove off with it... Still, to drive 1000 miles back home, I may need 3 hubs and at least 2 tires...

glad to see you figured out the problem... the wheels with 3lugs will be fine for the drive home, it just puts a little bit of extra stress on the other lugs but it should make the trip home.

the "almost" bald tire would probably be fine too, as long as theres a bit of tread, itll make a trip. my front tires were bald on the inside, so i rotated them and put them on the back, and im still driving with them with no problems.

try fitting a regular lug nut in place of that free spinning one - if it fits, hit up autozone and get another one so you can get that wheel tightened down with 3 lugs.

fill up that full size spare to replace the dead tire, rotate the baldest ones to the back, deflate them to 26psi, make sure they each have at least 3 lugs, and you should be ok for the trip... if you manage to get it home, i have a set of four 4x100 steelies WITH tires (not all match... lol), properly inflated and holding air with lots of tread left that you can have. when im down in Avenel, NJ this tuesday maybe i can finish the trip down and meet up with you, if you want them.

how is the bucking with the tires correctly inflated?

a completely blown (as in EMPTY) strut will cause a wheel to oscillate on the spring at high speeds (bounce like a basketball) especially if the wheels are unbalanced (or bulged like you said) so you might want to look into struts too

i was driving along today and the check engine light came on.
i pulled over and looked under the hood.
                    the engine was still there...
                    ...silly light!

wow.. thats insane... 60psi.. ive never needed to fill them up.. maybe thats why.. jesus.. mike im sorry.. i knew about the missing post in the front end.. but that didnt concern me.. and about one of them spinning freely.. thats new to me as well.. as i told u.. this car never saw me drive it.. so w.e maintenance it got.. was shit to get it running again.. which i couldnt even perform as you know.. the only thing i was able to get done to it again was the oil change...

regardless im begging for your apology.. if i would of known that there was that problem i wouldnt of let u drive off with it.. im thinking.. the car was fine when we went to go get gas and checkers because we werent doing 75mph.. i think the speed put the tire over the edge.. my sister thought that on the way home from work.. and she might be right.. this makes me regret selling it..maybe i should of just kept with it..and learned of what curses it had before handing it over to someone ya know?? i barely put 800miles on it.. and most of that was driving around my neighborhood.. pathetic yes.. i needed something to do...regardless.. mike i apologize for this huge pain in the ass your going through.. atleast its nothing expensive... if it is infact just that tire.. then i feel a LIL better...so far everything seems to be fairly cheaply replaceable.. the spare is fullsize like you said.. i dont remember if it leaks air or not.. but it does hold pressure.. u may just have to find it and use a fix-a-leak strap.. that u insert into the tire .. 3-4bucks.. the lugnuts are 1-2bucks for 4..

im praying that solves this fucking bucking problem..
if you wish to talk you can call me..
p.s no prank calls from anyone on here.. i dont need that shit please..

                          60 psi... good lord, lol

carlos, the car had to drive at least a little funny at that psi... you never noticed anything... or just looking at that bulgy ass tire? did you ever check your tire pressure, and notice that it was at 60 psi?

well, at least it's nothing major having to do with the suspension or drivetrain like you all thought.

good luck on your journey mike.

steven at that psi the tire doesnt look buldgy.. it looked buldgy and atv like in mikes discription because something inside the tire popped or something.. and the tire got pear shapped.. but when it was at my house and from the drive to get gas and food the tire was fine.. and no i never checked their psi. i alwasy did a visual check. to make sure they werent going flat.. which they never did..

i didnt notice the lug nuts being loose because they werent .. i probably stripped them with my air gun.. which seems to be the only possibility to me.. i unno.. anyway.. he got 2 new tires and a battery so far the car is set to go..
