any other console modders out there?

im in the middle of installing a globe360 chip into an xbox360. this is getting harder and harder!

the playstation was fine and easy. 7 wires, easy to access pins, 5 minutes, done.

the xbox was harder, but still not bad. 9 wire pin header, then the chip plugged right in... but much more configuration was necessary.

now the 360 is like wtf! theres 20 or so wires. not a big deal in itself, but the fact that microsoft covered the bios chip in freaking GLUE doesnt help! im trying to hack away at the glue to get to some of the pins, and im accidentically cutting traces here and there... then i need to go back and repair traces, and solder to gluey, messed up pins...

this is crazy. hopefully itll work when im done... lol. at least if this doesnt work the whole console isnt dead, just the dvd drive, which is easily replaceable.

anybody else attempt a 360 yet?

Iv always wanted to get my hands on an Xbox to mod, but never went though. I just finished building a mythTV box though, so i can do just about everything you can do on XBOX, except play XBOX games, but i have a full featured DVR and then some on top of it

try using a hair drier to remove the glue, move the hair drier around so it's not constantly heating up the surface area, if you leave it still it could either burn the PCB and surrounding components or reflow the solder that is holding all the components on, once the glue is hot you should be able to remove it easier.
just don't let it get too HOT

I wished I knew how to mod this stuff. OT: Dealing with the thin ps2. Is there a mod chip I can install on it like the old big ps2? or is that a no can do for the thin ones?

ive modded a lot of xboxes but all with soft mods, which to me, and through my experience work just as well. regardless, i have been burning and such since the dreamcast and with my ps2 i use the pro action replay max to play backups as well. i dont trust myself enough to use a chip and solder it, as im just not steady enough for it.

102030405 - thanks for the tip. heat gun actually softened whatever the hell that was enough to get it to peel off pretty easily.

nail - i have no experience modding ps2s, ud have to search for a chip. after the psx, i switched over to the xbox side. theres tons of modding forums out there, im sure the info is there.

                    modding an Xbox is easy.

i used my own as a test subject and once i got it up and going, a buddy of mine who like's "bling" asked me to make him one with Lots of lights on it kinda like a Christmas tree.

too bad i don't have any pictures of that clear blue one that i made.

anyways i always use the Xenium ICE or SPICE chips as they are more compatible with the many versions of the motherboard and then i use the XMBC dashboards because all the games show up as icons.
for the hard drive, i just get a Samsung HDD from my computer store.
you just needed the hard drive so you don't need all that fancy install disk or packaging that the WD or Seagate ones come with.

theres a massive difference in loading time when it's streaming off the hard drive than compared to reading of a DVD.

yeamans- is yours modded with a chip? if it is, sounds like a loose contact. same thing happened to mine after 2 weeks of playing around with it. i basically had to go back in and resolder everything to make sure it was nice and tight. it's been good to me since sept '05.

i think it is. that and i don't have to pull out any of my disks anymore risking scratching them. if you knew me personally i'm really anal about my disks and manuals being in near mint condition.

anyways, you know those loading screens with the slow moving bars? on mine, once the loading bar shows up on the screen, it shoots across and you're ready to get your game on.

theres one detail i forgot to mention. you will NOT be able to play on Xbox Live anymore after installing a modchip or swapping out the HDD to a larger capacity.

i love having a modded xbox. unlimited save space, and all the games i have are right there on the unit. carry it to a friends house and you dont need to carry any games, and it includes all the roms for all the other system emulators.

anyway what chip did you use? i switched to the new xecuter2 chip and i have a dipswitch and on/off LED mounted right on the front of the xbox. with the switch off, i go on xbox live perfectly fine... just gotta make sure you dont attempt it with the chip on. only down side to that is that u cant play any of ur ripped games on live... but the few you play live, might as well just buy.

i was using the Xenium ICE or SPICE, the difference was the SPICE came with a bunch of pins that when soldered onto the board it would allow you to remove the chip should you decide to convert back to stock.

the Tutorials worked just fine for me and even on the site they have video Tutorials you can use for ref during you install. A child can do the mod so you should have no problems doing it
