CPMRTOTD - the cp[mike] random thread of the day! (#13 - power buttons!)

alright, now figure THIS one out.

my brother gets a brand new set of Logitech computer speakers.

heres a pic of the power switch on the back of the subwoofer.

so as far as i see it, you flip the switch to the right to turn them ON, and flip it to the left to turn them... ON?

often youll see the symbol when referring to power being turned on. for example, look at your monitor - the power button probably has this symbol on it.

generally | means on, and O means off. but in this case, | means off.

why use both the (') and | on the same switch? why not follow the standard norm and use normal symbols that dont have any chance of causing any confusion?

thats like asking a question and giving the choices "Yes" and "Usually" instead of "Yes" and "No" and telling the person that "Usually" really means "No"

Why not turn it on, and leave it on?

Are those Z5300e? Killer speakers if they are. I'd rattle the sink in my dorm.

I turn mine on and off with the remote, never that switch. I never cared enough to actually stare at that button.

The O symbolizes a closed circuit, meaning current is running through it and it is on. The l symbolizes an open circuit, meaning current is not running throuth it and it is off.

in this case, yes... but its usually the other way around. for example, check the switch on the back of your computer.

They do it cuz they know there are guys out there like you who will go to people/boards like this and start a rant thread and tell al their friends what idiots the Co. is Thats a good observation mike. Theres a piece of equipment at my work that does the same thing. So your choices are ON or....ON.

I think the switch is for when you have one button for both on and off...they just combined the 2...but they acidentally used instead of just O...

true...one direction is on, the other is off...dont matter what the button looks like. But mike, i feel yer concern for the people making these kind of decisions...
