Well, if it means anything I used to drive a Chevy Nova, 87, when they were rebadged corollas.

Didn't care for the seat fabric, it was that rough knitted sort of stuff, but that may have been the chevy side.

Ours was beat the fuck up, but it refused to stop running.

The driving position and feel was rather like a civic, in that even a tall person (I'm 6') could find a comfortable position.

I'd get another if I needed a beater.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

Thanks! Detailed personal experiences are definitely a help!

I should look into another Dodge Shadow. I had a turbo one for my first car, and it was honestly pretty kickass... beat it to hell, and it was running when I sold it for $200. I didn't take care of that thing at all... I'm so ashamed.

im not so sure how far off the comparison between the corolla and camry but we've taken trips down to san diego (8 hours) and Lake Tahoe (4 hours) in the thing. i think we've replaced the spark plugs 3 times within 60k, lol.

the ONLY thing that broke was when there was massive hesitation and it was due to the spark plug wires. (easy fix)

ae92 corolla, cheap, reliable as hell, last forever. my last car was a ae92 sr5 with 350,000kms until i tboned someone. you could likely find a well maintained ae92 for very cheap. if you find a 5spd one thats even better.

                  civic
                  -honda
                  -economical
                  -can be spacious
                  -easy to fix
-similar to cb7 but not quite

cb is always a good option but its nice to switch once in a while and experience something else.

                  ...adjust accordingly

da integras are within your budget whether you want auto/manual 2 or 4 door. there are many aftermarket support for them if you want to mod that or keep it stock

i'm sorta in the same boat as you are in a way. i will be looking for my 3rd or 4th car, a drag/beater soon thats within $1000 after i'm done working on my integra (my autox car). so far i narrowed it down to a nissan 240sx (had one that was totalled) or an eg. since i like hondas more i'm leaning towards the eg

The truth of it is, with a budget of around $1K, it matters less what kind of car than it does the condition of the car. I mean sure, you can narrow it down to this or that, but if you do, you might overlook something in better shape simply because it didn't rise to the top of the list. You dig?

i concur. even automatic it held up to some beating... spun out in it, pushed 110+mph for a stretch of highway, drove it thru flooded roads, etc. only problem we ever had were the alternator died, and torn cv boots on both sides (probably was all those rocks and small plants i ran over). u can get them cheap too.

personally id get an older toyota truck. small, cheap, reliable, very useful.

or a legend, thatd be classy and comfortable.

or a CRX. probably the best fun cheap car that gets amazing mileage... tho im guessing u get reimbursed for miles, and ud be sacrificing comfortability & size...

a cb7 would be nice, but youve had that already... ive always had cb7 dd's (obviously) but at this point id try something else, learn something new. but it would be a cheap, familiar, easy car to work on, and its quite comfortable to drive.

Dude, you could probably get the CA in your backyard running for less than $500. Fix whatever issues it has, get some Tokico shocks and random springs...insta-daily driver!

My mom's 86 was a tank. Nothing ever went wrong on that car. Long live the old school 2.0 (i think). My other 3 friends with cavaliers (pre 95) had really good luck with them. Maybe you just got a bad motor?
