I was having her manually enter a VPN endpoint like this - <address>:<port>

...and she didn't know what a fucking colon was or where to find it on the fucking keyboard!!!

well as i was reading i was thinking, ok if this has something to do with her not being able to enter the ip, its understandable because most people dont understand it. but then a COLON? thats pretty pathetic man.

often times i have to tell people the full URL of the online banking website over the phone. believe it or not this is how MANY of the conversations go:

me: "...and then a hyphen and then a..."
them: "hyphen?"
me: "a dash... a hyphen"
them: "oh like a slash?"
me: "NO... a horizontal line... a minus sign... its called a hyphen"

my god, its like peoples brains no longer work or something? its scary how stupid people are when it comes to spelling, punctuation, and even using the english language in general.

me: type mount slash 'dev' slash 'hda1' space slash 'mnt'
them: slash? whats a slash?

once they figure out what a slash is, they usually pull something like this after what they typed doesnt work

me: repeat back to me exactly what you typed in
them: /dev/hda1space/mnt
me: no, when i said 'space' i meant the space bar, you know the biiiiig loooong button on the keyboard closest to your chest.
