    Got in an accident

Basically, the cotter pin for the lower ball joint nut wouldnt go back in. We had taken it all apart to replace studs. Well, we got the studs in, but the damn cotter pin wouldnt go back through (supposedly youre supposed to use a new one everytime, but i didnt have any) so i stuck a nail through and bent it. Now, im GUESSING it mighta been an aluminum nail or something, cuz that bitch broke off, the nut vibrated its way off and after that it was a matter of time. bump bump bump POOOF, whole left side goes up in smoke and the whole car bungs right. Screamin at me. i got two people behind me and a guy next to me. so i pull left to avoid a row of trees and a wall then wrenched right off the interstate, then wrenched left again to slide it sideways into a ditch, but it kinda went nose first. Kit was EVERYWHERE (but the neon tube inside was unshattered )The lady behind me said she couldnt believe how well i corrected it and managed to pull off not hitting anyone or anything. The molding on my sideskirts didnt crack amazingly, and thankfully the new studs held out so i didnt ride my rotor at all. The two front rims are gone, but luckily i was riding on stocks. The driveshaft ripped out, but it popped out at the boot, leaving the end in the tranny so the tranny is fine. The shaft is bent so thats gone. Honda quoted me $620 for a new driveaxle but Bap Geon, Autozone and Napa quoted me an average of $60. Yeah, tell me that aint some shit. All the ball joints need to be replaced, so im gonna take this opportunity to get my camber kit on. And i needed a new front kit anyhow, so whatever.

oh well, NOPI is April 24th around here, but im guessing i wont make it.
The lesson is: a 20 cent cotter pin can SAVE YOUR LIFE

dude, u just scared me to death. after popping the lower ball joint, i wasnt able to get the nut all the way back on, but its on pretty tight, but its halfway off and there is NO cotter pin installed... i guess this will be the last time i drive my car till i get that fixed...

sucks about ur car tho, that really stinks at least ur seeing the best in it, getting to replace ur front kit, install the camber kit, but still sad that that happened. VERY good that u didnt run into anything and kill ur car totally!

Damn, man... I'm glad you're ok, and the damage is fairly minor (frame damage would've been SOOO much worse!)

As for the cotter pin, I'm glad I read this! I plan on messing with my front end soon (axles, wheels, suspension) and I'm sure I wouldn't have known what to do.

Thanks for the heads up, and good luck!

sorry, went over there last night and forgot my digi cam. I 'll get pics soon. The tire is pretty cool, melted in a little semicircle from draggin it across the Interstate. I got VERY lucky, couda been a LOT worse, thank GOD its not tranny . Damn CP Mike you are one lucky bro, drivin without that thing. It caved in a small section on my fender, kinda like 93accordex's pic, but towards the bottom. That pic is a good picture of what mine looks like except a more extreme right angle. so im gonna rip off that fender and pound it back straight and take this opportunity to fix my Z3 inserts as well. Oh well, at least i can catch up on body work.
