    Is Honda tuning "out"?

Seems like the Honda tuning trend seems to be a thing of the past. From what I gather online and see in magazines, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, and Domestic 4cyl cars (Cavalier, Focus) seem to be the rage now. I'm noticing the price of many Honda performance parts dropping a bit, and I'm hearing a whole lot of people talking bad about Honda, like Hondas are inferior in every way.

Personally, if my observations are correct, I'm happy about that!
    1) I won't be seen as "trendy"
    2) Prices will be less due to decreased demand (hopefully demand will be enough to keep parts available)
    3) I don't care what people say, my car is still far from inferior to anything (especially some of the crap that's coming out today...)

    Has anyone else noticed this?

Well, from what I've always known/experienced:

Honda is/was never known for performance tuning. Honda vehicles have always been praised with "good" quality and "highly" reliable. This doesn't mean Honda vehicles can't compete with other makers given the right amount of modding and tuning; it's just that by design, Honda never aimed for all out speed. Honda's are economical.

Tuning Honda's only became a trend simply because people wanted reliability first, but later, want speed. And the aftermarket seeing the sheer number of Honda's out there, only heeded to the call of supply-n-demand.

As much as we'd like to, we can't make our cars AWD like Audi, Subura, the Lancers. The only two vehicles from Honda that I classify as "performance"-oriented are the NSX and the s2k (some may argue the prelude but underpowered and overweight, it couldn't compete well).

So as far as I'm concerned, Honda has always been a little bit behind in performance. We don't have impressive 0-60 and 1/4-mile times. The thing we're known for best is that our engines can run up to 200k miles easy. Many have done it before me, I am just a stone's throw away from it (195k).

That's all true... I'm just referring to the trend itself, though. 1-4 years ago, tuning a Honda was "the thing to do". Now, it's become so cliche that anyone with a modified Civic is laughed at by the "real" tuners (aka. the trendy people).

I was flipping through HCI the other day, and I found more ads for Focus upgrades than I did for Honda upgrades. Of course, It WAS the issue that had 3 articles on Jason Whitfield's 725hp turbo H22 Civic hatch, a step-by-step demonstration of a B16 buildup, and a highlighted show Accord...

I typed that after reading usc's comment, but I forgot to submit it

So, fizzbob, that's exactly what I'm getting at.
I feel sorry for the people who were just getting into the new trends before they hit, like the 240sx/Silvia enthusiasts...

yeah i kinda was thinkin about this lately...when i used to tell people i had a honda they were like oh cool i like em but now its usually DO U HAVE A BIG WING AND A COFFEE CAN ON IT??? like every fuckin honda has to be like that, which isnt true. but like devergotee said, if prices are down, then i'm all for it! people are pissed because honda isnt comin out with an awd turbo to compete with wrx and evo, and why they dont have a flagship v8 like most other companies do, and why blah blah blah. honda tuning is very "IN" for me, and thats the only person i give a shit about

Thats why I keep my car "looking" stock. Stock really can't go out of style. Also I get tons of stupid people that always say to me "I like you Acura but I hate Honda's." So I don't get the honda sterotype.

Also who cares if it goes out of style. Chances are if your taking the time to sit and talk about cars on the net all day your not in it for the trend.

Another thing is if people can still tune, build, and restore old 70's and 80's toyota sports cars I'm sure I'll be able to tune my honda forever.

there are cars now that can just kick ass and have more features than the CB7. lets face it....its an old car....yet there are still people who enjoy this look of accords and some also who dont like the new accords or new cars in general.

some people may say that honda tuning is out....but gee not for me. this is my car. gets me to point a to point B.

now if u want to get noticed with a cb7 u have to have a swap or something crazy done like a body kit or something else. or just being clean like me hehehe.

but maybe to the new teen age cb7 are out dated and they rather go with their civic vtec and wutever. blah i say. my car, my ride, my lust, there for i tune.

a friend of mine told me, "why dont u get a new car, yours is old"

im like wtf...dude it still runs fine, i mean yea its out dated but it dont look bad and run down. the new cars now, made of plasic and some shit are just kinda ugly to me. yea they are fast and very good preformance, but face it....the bodies are just not cuttin it. the new HUGE front headlights i dont like and the rear lights i dont really like.

blah...i need cash for insurance =)
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I owned my first 4th gen for many many years and loved it so much that I had to buy another one! I still have both and love the whole sport/hobby/career so much that I don't see me stopping in the near future. I like some of the features that the newer cars have but overall, I don't like most cars produced at or after 1997. They don't satisfy me enough. I like the looks of my CB7's more than most newer cars. I would take an NSX or S2k of any year but I'd still have to have my lil old Accord cause that's where the love is at. I actually own 4 cars right now and would be able to afford an NSX or S2k if I sold them all, but I don't want to. I don't think I'd get the satisfaction out of them like I do my current vehicles. Car tuning is not going to die. It is forever changing, but will never die. Even if the Honda tuning is dying down, it hit so hard and made such a big impact that I don't think we ever have to worry about any part shortages. As long as the parts are around, the tuning will continue. Imports, mainly Hondas/Acuras, are the hotrods of today. You can still build a hotrod from 40 years ago and the parts are still around, so I predict it will be the same way with Hondas.

I've only ever owned Honda's, and I'm always looking for a way to add a new feature, a little more power, Etc. It's been nice to have lots of new manufacturers, but it really sucked when all of the engine prices went up... Try finding just a head or just the long block for someone with an Integra GSR... You can't, or they want to sell the entire drivetrain as a package. Damn kids buying all of the B18C1's for their civics. I have one guy who wants us to but a b18A in to his 3G Accord HB...

yet fwd is getting old...thanks to the evo 8 and the other new cars that are either rwd or awd honda is gettting played i think.

i think honda should make a accord with rear wheel drive...why not =).

im soo out of the tuning spec of imports...i just drive one..maybe thats why i dont notice much.

I fell in love with Hondas after my 90 Integra GS 5 spd. I will always be loyal, but I do like & would like in the future to get a Toyota Supra twin turbo, Mazda RX-7 twin turbo, maybe Nissan 300ZX....in addition to a GS-R and Prelude...maybe I'll have my 90 EX Accord around still.

No, i'm not getting all these cars for sure...I'd like to get 3 total....fo sho the GS-R, then Supra, then I dunno....leaning toward a Prelude (latest gen) love the stylin

i thought i was weird for feeling like that.

in my eyes, the 4th gen was the pinnacle model for looks and ease of tuning. its a beautiful car, the interior is simple but has plenty of features, and is layed out in a great way. the interior is a style that allows room for custom things that you want to do, but isnt as boxy as the late 80's and isnt as bubbly as the late 90's+. its elegantly and beautifully styled, without the humongoid headlights and tail lights, like you mentioned. sure i would love to have a newer car, they are dang fast and have tons of technological advances... but "the bodies are just not cuttin it."

some of the people think im weird because the next car i want is a late 80's prelude (3rd gen i think? like an 88). i really hope i get to keep my 93 for a very long time... ill keep swapping in prelude engines if i need to. its a beautiful car... its exactly how i think cars should look.

Get a Lude with 4WS! They made em in the late 80s, and again in 97, I think. I hear it's quite an experience to drive one. I wonder if an H series engine would fit into an old Prelude...

Anyway, like accordztech said, Honda should make a RWD Accord... or even better, an AWD Accord. They made AWD wagons at one point, so I know they know how (not to mention the ugly Civic wagon and CRV.) I'd love to see someone convert a CB7 to RWD and go drifting with it...

Hmm... very true. Still, it's a pretty cool concept.
Would the 3rd gen ludes benefit from an H22, or would they be better off with a B series, like the 3rd gen Accords?

A B-series engine would fit in to a 3G Acc/Pre much better than an H or F series engine. I don't know for sure, but I'll bet that a K series would fit.
