Yo, we are so flippin lucky, pt. II

I was talking to some dude from a class I'm taking, and he has a new Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. It's unreliable as shit and it costs a buttload of cash to fix. Anyways the man needed a new front axle, and they charged him

    Three thousand dollars ($3,000)

to replace it. Mike and I did my axle in about 30 minutes, no joke...and even at Pep Boys it would have been $300, tops.

My point is that on top of having cheap and abundant parts, we also have a plethora of info and a strong, helpful community to help us out when we need it. CB7tuner= teh sh*t.

I think all eurpean cars are expensive as hell to maintain. If you see BMW has some 5 yr plan you get brakes and all kinds of maintence for free. Where I work we get all parts from the dealer and sometimes it comes out to like 1k in just parts.

Ludicrous. What's so special about their parts anyway? They all do the same stuff.

Well I can kind of understand the parts being a little more...think about how many CB's there are on the road; they can make parts for cheap because they'll still make a significan profit from the volume. There aren't too many German cars on the road in comparison so the profit margin has to be higher, especially on the more expensive cars...

But damn, $3,000 for an axle? $8,000 for headers on a 540i/old M5...ludicrous...

the sign on the wall at the "european parts performance" shop near me (basically a VW shop):

                Labor Rate Per Hour
                VW: $60 / hr
                Audi: $120 / hr
                Porsche: $180 / hr

and thats not even the dealer, which im assuming would be more... plus the cost of OEM dealer parts...

thats insane, my friends shop has a 91 lude with a broken timing belt and they dont feel like fixing it, so they are gonna drop it off at my house haha... i should charge the guy like $500
