    everyone's leaving

Come one guys, why is everyone dropping their CB7s for something different? Our cars have a good bit of technology in them yet are still easy to work on, and to make go fast. What more could you ask for in a car? Well, you guys can go your seperate ways, get new cars and whatever other sin you feel like commiting and I'll be here keeping it real with a CB7 for life. In time, I'll have the car that gets talked about around campfires. The car no one ever sees. A car that doesn't come out to play, but out to hunt. Then you'll feel dumb. Props to xplode for knowing his roots and sticking around.

Everyone who drops the Accord always has the same argument... "There are so many better cars out there!"

That statement is made primarily judging on one aspect or another... Newer look, faster, turbo, AWD, RWD, more luxurious, etc...

The Accord is NOT a fast car, and takes a lot of work to make it so. Even in it's fastest state, it's only a 10 second car (unless you build nd strip it beyond recognition, and then it's not an Accord anymore in my opinion...)

FWD isn't the choice for speed cars, but rather for grocery getters, economy cars, and cheap cars that mommy won't crash when driving in the rain.

The CB7 in particular is fairly dated looking... It looks nothing like the big luxury type Accords around today. It also has limited luxuries...

So, since I already know and accept this already, why do I still want to keep my car? I have a few reasons. For one, I'm proud of it. It's MY car, and it has always treated me well. Second, since it's not supposed to be fast, I find that it's more impressive that I'm making it so. Sure, racing Corvettes is a long way off, but beating some punk in a V6 Mustang is still fun! If I were to roll up to that same Mustang in something sportier (say, an SRT-4) then it wouldn't be as fun to me. Third, tying it all together, the car is a very well rounded machine. Well balanced, it handles nicely, it can fit lots of stuff in it. It also has decent potential for power (accepting the H22 with next to no handling compromise is a plus). It's also weighted nicely. It's heavy enough to give a fairly luxurious ride (rather than the econobox feel of a Civic) and it's light enough to race (weighs only a little more than the newest Civic, and far less than the newest Accord). The aftermarket is fairly decent as well.

I contemplated selling my car before I really decided to put my heart into it. I could've gotten an overweight, poorly-balanced, fishtail-happy 240sx. Or I could've gotten a nice RX-7, with that wonderful heat-producing rotary engine that only 1 in 6 mechanics know how to work on (properly). I could always save for a Subaru, but unless I want to spend $25,000 on something fast, I'd still be stuck with a nice overweight car... 4wd being the only plus. I could also get a domestic gas guzzler (or an import SC clone, ie. the new Sunfire, Cavalier, Neon, or Escort). I'm not a fan of American cars newer than 1975 though...

I don't pass judgement on anyone who wants to give up their car. This is my reasoning for why I want to keep my CB7. From my perspective, it's pretty solid reasoning though!

very nice argument mike. i think thats how most of the proud CB7 owners feel, at least for the period that they keep their car. i know you described how _I_ feel, but you missed two things... for such an old car, they may look dated, but they still have quite a deal of luxury features, and they definately arent ugly... *AND* they are very affordable for the quality of car you are getting.

Affordability is definitely an issue for most of us (though not all... some people on here can afford newer cars... or think they can swing it somehow...) A $3000 car that will still give you plenty of use, and keep a good deal of its resale value is great. Of course, picking a car for that reason, while having the intention of modding it, isn't a great idea. You'll end up losing money on the resale, since an H22 CB7 will still only fetch $3000-$4000, unless you're a good salesman (and have someone who knows what they're getting...) Still, getting $2000 back for a modded car is still a pretty good deal.

As for luxury, they are lacking some compared to the new stuff. They have the necessary stuff, in my opinion. Other than that, it's personal preference. That's why I don't really argue that point... That's as strong as "there are much better mags out there than Super Street"

As for the look, they do look somewhat dated, but they can be made to look very nice fairly easily (a clean one is impressive). They still look better than the Camrys of the same era... Again though, more opinion than arguable material (I won't call it "fact")

Deevergote is absolutely right. Our cars arent meant to be the fastest thing, but a good balance between sporty and luxury, at a price that everyone can afford. A new car is out of the question for me since I'm in college. Many of us don't like monthly payments. I know I don't. I'd rather spend that money on upgrades for my CB7. And this being my first car, it makes it just a little more special to me. I'm definitely a CB7 lover

Yeah my first baby as well. We ride together we die together.
I would never by a civic because they are so common and there is no originality if you by a civic. "Look the two civics are racing, who wants lunch" Or "THE ACCORD IS WHOOPIN THAT CIVICS/Integras/Mustang's ASS!!!" I would rather have a slighltly slower accord than a fast civic anyday. But of course the h22 is going in in 2 months, and the gathering for a mild custom turbo will begin shortly after so...

Sho Nuff, we gotta put our heads together for a turbo build... We're gonna be thinking along the same lines! Well, I want a little more than mild (350whp minimum) but still...

nowonder everyone wants to sell their car, too many people here bought 4 door autos *grocery getter* if you dont have fun driving your car its time to move on. somehow i dont think many people hold 4 door autos in high regards in terms of speed or style. if you think slapping a ground touching body kit that isnt even painted on your 4dr makes it fast, take it from what I heard once on the speed channel "the truth can be embarassing". i dont act like i think my car is fast or put a bodykit that makes people believe so.

I like the coupes well enough... they're just a pain to get in and out of if you're not driving. Auto I don't like anymore, though I used to only want an auto... I need control dammit! Autos make great show cars though.

I actually thought about getting a Hachi after watching Initial D... And hearing how Katsuhiro Ueo basically did everything that was done in the cartoon in the D1... Well, not downhill, but he pretty much beat the same cars!

Civics are indeed trite and way too common...and they aren't as nice as they're cracked up to be. After just sitting in one once, the Accord feels like a luxury car to me...

The Accord is cool, but things happen. The CB is at least 11 years old now, so it's only natural people would want something newer. Personally, I wouldn't mind a white one with red wheels and a black leather interior, with either a turbo or an i/h/e'd up H, as I have yet to drive anything that handles better...but if I had the $$ I'd def. get a G35 coupe or an Evo in a heartbeat. It's easy to get all lovey-dovey when you're either deep into the CB or aren't in the position to get something new soon...but when you are, I don't see why someone would keep the CB over getting something new. Besides, if you have money to get a sweeter car, you prob. have the money to keep the CB in all it's glory.

Oh and coupes look weird to me too...the trunk is too long on our cars to be coupes...the CD coupe looks a lot better. I def. wouldn't mind having a coupe if it was as sweet as the ones I've seen here though. Even the beige DX's are hot...
