ok, if you take the same exact analog signal and watch it on two different 36" tv's. one is hd-ready and the other is just a basic flat tube tv... will the picture look different? or will it look equally as bad/good on the both tv's since they have the same screen size?
and yes. i was watching a hd football game at my cousins house. fuckin amazing. looks almost too good... realer than real, if that makes any sense.

They should look exactly the same.

alright im a tv salesmen at circuit city, we carry that tv and u will not be disappointed if u buy it. crt tvs(tube tvs) are actually some of the best picture of any tv, they offer the blackest blacks and whitest whites. there only reall disadvantages are they are bulky and limted in size. if u watch cable on a tube tv, it will be a lil better than a plasma and lcd, and since its hd ready that means u can upgrade by either going though ur cable company or satalite. i say go head and get it man, u will be happy i promise. got any other questions on tvs guys, just ask me, its what i do for a living

I've got a 55" Mitsubishi RPTV and Comcast cable. The analog signal looks like ass. The digital signal is a notch better, but not much. HDTV is of course amazing. DVD's in 480p look awesome as well.
Not sure if that Sony is a rear projection or not, but if it is projection you might want to invest in a calibration somewhere down the road. My TV really needs one. The geometry n shit is kind of off. Most people say it's a completely different tv after a good calibration by someone that knows what they're doing.

Yeah my mom actually bought a Sony 42' Flatscreen LCD tv and it's great hdtv equipped. The picture is AMAZING. ESP RedSox Games and Footballs games. It's like your actually there.

either way, id say go for the HDTV ready one. if in 5 years u have enough for HDTV to feed your large TV, and if you got the standard analog TV right now, youd be pissed at yourself because youd need to buy another TV, one that supports HDTV.
if it looks a bit worse right now, you might still wanna get it, instead of buying old technology, you can get the new kind even if your cable doesnt support it... yet
