Good learning resources (books, websites, etc...) for car stuff.

I've gone through the one quality book I own a million times, and I want more! I learned a great deal from "Honda/Acura Engine Performance" by Mike Kojima. However, it really only covers the basics of Honda engine tuning. I'd love to get some better books that go into more detail. Things about turbocharging, or the actual assembly of the engine... why things work as they do, what the function of each part is (as well as the name...)

I feel that I know a fair amount, but once I look at the real thing, I have no clue what a lot of it does, let alone how to modify it! I don't just want to bolt things on and hope for a gain. I want to know why certain mods will do what they do.

I'm sure most of you guys that know their stuff have had hands-on experience (which is best, I know). However, I have no one close to me that knows cars any better than I do, and I can't afford the time to take a job at a shop (if one would have me). I also can't afford to dismantle my only car. AND I don' thave the room, money, or necessary tools to get a spare car or engine to mess around with. There has to be something on paper that I could study!

I don't know if this should go in the technical forum or the off topic forum... I keep making these questionable threads! (that no one usually responds to! )

Man, I was so tired last night when I posted that! I hope it makes sense!

I just want a good book on engines, and/or a good book on turbos. Too bad there isn't anything out there for modifying H22 CB7s!

Hey, I have another crazy idea... Of course, I just got home from work, and I'm sick, so I might not be in any better shape mentally than I was last night. Just laugh at me if you think this is a stupid idea... We could write a book about modifying CB7s! I know for a fact that these cars are gaining popularity with tuners, so it could possibly even sell. At the very least, it would be interesting to do. I might play around with that idea for a bit, and see if it would be doable. If anyone is interested in actually doing it, post here, PM me, IM me, email me, or whatever! I might just try to write up an outline of a book. A table of contents, if you will... Then we can see who knows what to add to each section. Collectively, we all probably know everything there is to know about CB7s... or can learn it. I dunno. Just an idea....

yeah seems like most ppl here have a specific focus that they know most about... but the problem w/ writing about book is that anything we can write in a book would be readily available for free on all the websites about cb7s, and i dont know if the cb7 fanbase is large enough for a book to make it.

its a good idea, but wouldnt it end up just being a collection of DIY's?

Probably, but that's pretty much all the books I've read have been. The one I own, and one I borrowed, were both products of SCC. "Honda and Acura Performance" is pretty much a compilation of articles for the magazine. The engine book is a real book written by a single author though (and actually a very good book for beginners).

If it was possible to create a book with a flow to it, it would be possible to get it out there. Go to your local book store... there are books on more focused and obscure shit than CB7s! Plus, it might be fun to do The only problem is that most of us don't have the proper credentials to author a book like that. We're all amateur tuners, but very few of us are professional mechanics. Still...

i think its a crock, cause you can find all that stuff for free.. which i think he just snagged off sites... but whatever..

Ah, I see... Still, a real book would be more interesting.

Hell, I should start my own little business. I could come to focused boards like this, have a bunch of people help write a book, and then act as the go-between with a publishing company. A whole series could be made that way. The only problem would be that the authors would be doing it for fun and credit, since compensation would be worthless. The diffusion of profits would result in only a couple bucks each!

That's why I'm a marketing major, I guess! I always think of crazy shit like that. Of course, I never act on it.
