    DVD Burning, Need Help :)

Another computer question... I'm going to buy DVD burner for my new computer but it's all chinese to me.

What are all these different formats DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, etc.?

My main goal is to transfer movies I have saved on my Tivo to DVD but I want to maintain the same quality and maybe transfer movies from DVD to DVD (Like rentals to keepers).

Is this possible? What do I need?

    Thanks.

ugh... complete retardation manifested. not you, but all the different DVD formats.

burning from tivo -> isnt gonna work unless u hack the tivo to get the videos off of the internal harddrive, or u playback everything into a video input on ur computer, and record it to ur comp's harddrive.

i started explaining, but i found a good explaination online... http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/...sExplained.asp

give that a read and itll clear it up.

DVD-RAM requires a weird tray and only works with specific drives- so ur not gonna need to worry about that format.

when i got one i went with the sony dru-500ax or something, it supports all of the types, and had the quickest burn times out of all the comparisons.

if not the Sony, try for the Plextor or TDK

Well the Tivo's programmed in Linux and although I'm sure it has been posted on Tivo forums on how to extract the raw files that contain the video I'm not going to bother with that.

I'll probably just buy a quality capture card and record the live video from the Tivo into my PC. I hate taking apart my Tivo but maybe now after I burn off the movies I want I'll add a second 80gig. I already have one 80gig but it would be nice to have a second. A friend of mine has two 120gigs in there but that's just over kill in my opinion.

I'm looking at this drive at the time being http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ory=44956&rd=1 (Please don't anyone outbid me, So if you see "josebellas" let me win) It seems to support all the formats which DVD-R seems to be the most popular.

I'll read your link now, Hopefully it will shed some light on this.

i dont have too much time right now, but that at least will help for the moment
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!
