    Don't trust all mechanics

Alright I am driving my car today and I make a turn, the oil light comes on so when I get home I pull into my parents garage. I get out of the car and I smell smoke really bad. I open the hodd of the car and to my surprise, THE OIL CAP WASNT ON. My parents got the car back from their mechanic a couple days before and he took of the cap and never replaced it. Their was oil every wear and on everything. I dont want to pick on all mechanics but shouldnt someone who has had years and years of experience remember to put the oil cap on before they close the hood?

Everybody's got a mechanic horror story. Some are good, some are bad: just like every other industry. Even the good ones can make mistakes....
but, really, jesus, change the oil yourself, it's not that hard.

This is hilarious, cuz it just happened to my bassist, we were riding along in his Saturn ( YECHHH) when all of a sudden his temp gauge starts rising. I tell him to turn up the heat until he can pull off. So he does, temp gauge starts going down, and he pulls off. Open the hood, whaddya know, the dumbass forgot to put the oilcap on! oil was EVERYWHERE. funny thing is, this is what hes KNOWN for, hes done it like 3 times before. I told him if he ever came near my engine i'd make him eat my ass with a spoon. :booty:

I want to change the oil myself but my parents wont let me touch anything mechanical on the car. They said they didnt want me to mess anything up because I didnt have any experience. So I got a job at a dealership in the service department and they still wont let me change the oil.

my grandpa brought his car to walmart for an oil change a few years back and i think they forgot to refill after drainign it... or just didnt put enough in... but the engine later seized. walmart had to pay for the replacement and labor.

Man, sounds like you've met some poor mechanics. If we did any of the crap you guys talk about we'd be out of business in a matter of months. When looking for a shop, I would look for ASE certifications, Specialization is good, and ask around. We get most of our business from referrals. Well, good luck to all of you looking for a shop you can trust.

with the oil cap off and the car at idle, my toyota (pretty dang similar to a honda engine) kinda splashed out splatters of oil. i guess if u drove it like this for any period of time... oil would be allllll over the place.
