    Energy Drinks : Don't

After being on energy drinks hard for the past two years (5 per week, 1 every morning before work, for little over two years) I noticed I was now suffering from chronic fatigue and low libido/testosterone. I bagan to suspect my vast intake of energy drinks (no brand in particular, something different every day. Always with huge amounts of sugar, caffeine, and taurine) To confirm, I decided to quit all manner of energy drink (except a coffee every day or two) and see what happens.

The first week was terrible. I was bedridden with the worst migraine I've ever suffered through, and no amount of advil or tylenol would help. Once it started to die down I had difficulty sleeping for another couple days, with headaches that continued to come and go.

Now it's two weeks later and I feel energetic and frisky again. I can't find any studies that coincide with my experience. Has anyone here had a similar experience? Are any of you currently an energy drink addict?

I was introduced to these when I was doing roofing years ago. Now I only like the rockstar blue cans. I usually just drink them on the weekends but find myself drinking the more these days. But I'll make one can last all day, sip on it, sometimes put it back in the fridge. I don't drink two a day. But if I"m working on the car, then i'll have one for sure.

When I drink these, sometimes they make me have awful withdrawls on the same day when it wears off. I found that drinking a gatorade or water afterwards lessens the bad effects more. I used to drink them a lot more but I found that natural energy drinks are better, such as coffee and tea. Coffee itself can be bad too. What I do is mostly drink this tea called Ilex Guayusa. Its imported from South America. Its loaded with caffeine and has theobromine, a "feel good" chemical found in chocolate. It also has tons of antioxiants and alkaloids which are good for you. Overall its like super tea. It comes from the Holly tree species and is related to Herba Mate, but it doesn't have the bitter taste which it has.

I bought a whole pound of it from Amazon, I think it was more than worth the purchase. It was given the
2012 Tea Champion" first place. It also says "clean energy" on the package. The tea is exceptionally good, it makes you feel good and energetic, its a much cleaner effect than the energy drinks, it doesn't make you feel withdrawls or anything negative like coffee and Rockstar can do to you.

I used to back when I was 18 for probably 2 years, once I had more than the recommended amount and I couldn't sleep... That was enough for me.

I have the odd one now and again but find I crash harder than if I didn't have 1.

no sugar, basically an energy drink with vitamin B's, taurine, caffeine, and a bit of NOx. I just take a sip here and there, on days that I want to be cranking through work.

I'd compare these things to Nitrous. Play it careful and don't melt your internal engine parts, guys.

For most of my freshman and sophomore years in high school my lunch mainly consisted of a bag of Gardetos and Redbull, I was a fat kid. I lost that weight when I actually had a car to drive to get better food than the gas station near the school.

I was just looking up caffeine when I saw a video about a guy who OD'd on pure powdered caffeine because he mistook it for creatine. There was also a guy in GB who OD'd by taking 2 spoonfuls. He died. Turns out you can buy the stuff online for an extremely cheap price and its extremely potent.

Won't drink unless I feel ultra tired and have a long day ahead of me.

Have become caffeine sensitive if i drink one, or have a coffee when it's dark.
                          I won't be tired til 5am.

The caffeine doesn't bother me. Actually I have had a caffeine addiction since '05 when I worked at a coffee stop and had unlimited free coffee. My main problem with energy drinks is the taurine, which acts as a kind of artificial adrenaline in the human body, and over time with extended exposure could lead to reduced amounts of testosterone in men. I've not found any studies to prove it, but many I've spoken to who are hard on the drinks exhibit similar symptoms.

I started drinking them when I started working in a really hot shop. Its always hot and humid where I work, so one day I switched from morning coffee (hot!) to energy drinks (cooool!). If only there was energy drinks that had the caffeine but without the taurine and sugar, this might not have happened.

Also for the record, I hate red bull. Monster and Rockstar are my favs, especially the coffee flavored ones.

I drink a Monster a day, sometimes two.
Lately, I've been trying to get off of it. I've gone from about 180lbs to around 210lbs. That's not only due to the Monster, but I'm sure it doesn't help!

When I go a few days without, I don't really feel bad. In fact, I don't really even feel anything when I drink them. No caffeine rush (I DO feel that with coffee), no real increase in energy... but I enjoy the taste. When I don't have one, I notice. I feel a craving that may be addiction, or it may just be due to the breaking of habit (and I am a creature of habit.)

I've noticed that I've been feeling fatigued and sluggish lately. I don't know if it's due to the energy drinks, the lack of energy drinks, or the fact that I've tacked on an extra 30lbs in the past 6 months or so.
The best I've ever felt in my life is when I ate healthy, ate smaller portions, exercised regularly, and drank at least a gallon of water each day.
