Your Choice For An 5-10 Year Project/Restoration.

Many of us on the board are not fortunate enough to go all out and build our dream car in one short shot. For most of us, a full project can take anywhere from a year or two to never being completed.

Given the time, energy, resources, and dedication, what project would you tackle (ie. garage rent free, all tools needed for build minus welding equipment/paint equipment unless you have access to it). I'm speaking of taking a car you always dreamed for, never had the chance to own, but now have the means to buy the car/chassis/roller/someone else's project/etc.

Given a budget of $2713.67 (random low figure number) to start, what would you go and buy to start a full build, and what would be your end goals?

Rules: It has to be something that is obtainable here in the U.S. or a vehicle that can be legally imported. You have to acquire a title for the vehicle upon purchase. Pictures/links of car should be found for reference (Autotrader, Cars, TraderClassics, Craigslist, Ebay, etc.). Should be a realistic obtainable purchase.

    I'll start.

I hate when this site logs you out, ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! (click the remember me box).

This is a re-type (not as good as the first attempt).

Ideally, I would try to get my hands on a '66/'67 Chevy II to build. I found one as a reference which is a different year, and this would definitely be a full restoration project with my own design intentions. I would get the vehicle towed, or tow them both myself from their location to my garage. First thing, the body would be removed, and the frame would be sanded, primed, and powder coated. Everything else would fall in place after that. My intent would be a pro-touring Nova with a LS2/LS3 in it. I would keep the power and torque in the 450 range as I would want to enjoy it on the street and track.

Here's the ad, and the following would be my end goal.

I don't even know if I'd modify it. I like the way it looks and they're quick.

            ^lol ok.

GF bought a 1981 Camaro Z28. Original rustfree car from Florida. Guy had done all paintwork and then let it sit. We picked it up for $2k. I think we overpaid but the body is straight and solid with no patchwork. This is out of your budget posted but we have a LQ4/T56 going in with 500hp.

They are good looking and handling cars (for a muscle car) and running driving examples needing restoration can be had for $2500

Exactly! Nice motor. That's plenty of power for that chassis. Probably more than you actually need. Ahhh, who am I kidding.

                78-88 G body GM ,

They can be had for less than 1k and if you look in the right places you can modify it a bit for about $1500

If you want to go through the car completely then you are looking at upwards of 5-10k or more.

And nearly all of them come with a clean title

Nice. GNXs, T Type Regals, Grand Nationals are true classics. Can't go wrong with that.

Amazing choice. You can't go wrong with that platform or the engine you chose. Bowing down to your choice. Respect.

BTW, can one be found on the budget?

Probably just a roller with no glass and free rat poop But Im sure somewhere theres one sitting in a barn waiting for me, owned by an old lady wanting to just get rid of it.. Honestly I dont know since theyve gotten kind of popular within the last few years. I forgot the other model numbers but theres like 2 or 3 that are similar. But I like the 510's lines the best, especially after theyre honed...mmmmm. Im glad you share such finer tastes

I can relate as I want a all steel '41 Willys coupe. However, this budget will not cut it.

240Z (or 60 or 80) with a 350 Chevy Small Block. Buy a straight, relatively rust free Z for under $1500 and an LS1 or whatever 350 V8 you want. jagsthatrun.com has a book for sale that details the swap, and with parts and everything it could be almost $5000 total to get it to run and drive but there is still painting and maybe brake upgrades.
