Not sure how many people on here have dealt with them over the years.
You can research them online.
Basically there are annual cicada's and periodic ones.
Every summer when you hear that loud ass buzzing, that's the annual ones.
Every 13 or 17 years, a brood emerges by the billions(not a typo) and swarm from basically the low country(GA, SC) all the way up into the hudson valley.
Pretty far stretch.
They are harmless. As newbs they suckle on tree roots for 17 years, then emerge. They land on the closest object(usually trees) but can be people or cats lol....
they then break out of their skin, and emerge the cicada's we're use to seeing.
They then fuck, lay eggs, and die.
The eggs hatch, and the newbs fall to the ground and burrow and suck on some root for another 17 years.
FUCKING CRAZY. lol.
I've had people tell me that they were hanging around in 04 when the last brood emerged, and that the swarm was like defeaning. And then all of a sudden over 100k of these started falling out of the sky lol.
IDK.
Now that I own a house im the one who has to do the yard work, and Im not a big fan of these.
Anything that leaves behind a perfect mold of itself, is fucking disgusting imo.
They don't sting or anything, but having one fly into your head is not my type of enjoyment.
