    Crossing the Canadian border

It's been quite some time since I've done this. (Last time I was 6 years old).
My enhanced ID should be here soon, and I'm planning on headed over there in May.
Is there any special procedure? Do I just drive up and hand them my ID?
From what I remember they talked to my parents a little, but I can't remember what they said.
    MRT
37.5 MPG, AC on, cruising at 80.
30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

Lots of DIY videos specifically for our car

Get some awesome wipers! <-- It's a DIY

passport is better. Otherwise yah, pull up, hand your ID over, answer questions, and that's it. Takes all of 2 minutes.

why. I dont know. But crossing the border back into the states with different RFID tags in your tires will set off the dope runner alarm. just sayin..

I take it that is only the case with an enhanced ID? If i have a regular one i just wouldn't be allowed to cross unless i had a passport?

From my understanding it's because the passport will allow you to fly home if need be, and you can go more places with it (everywhere). Enhanced IDs only let you go on (by driving) Caribbean cruises, Mexico, and Canada.

But, I had to pay for two of them.
Enhanced IDs for me are $45 a piece. Passports are somewhere in the range of $145 a piece.

I think its any cruise now. My mother and sister went on an Alaskan cruise and they needed the card, even though they never stepped foot in Canada.

EDL's are for land or sea.

So, YES, tippey.....using a normal drivers license would not prove citizenship....

you would then need your passport.

I'd stop reading and using more logic. If I were to drive to the states for 48 hours or more, I can bring back $800 worth of goods tax free. If those are my tires then that's fine. You can even tell the boarder guards if you want. Will it result in a search, maybe - I've never tried it. I know that there are ways of finding anomalies and that drug smugglers can use used tires too. I've never heard of RFID tags in a tire that's recorded at the boarder and then compared when you return. That sounds like paranoia.

So use your enhanced drivers license or passport and you'll be fine.

I've even used my birth certificate and an expired passport. If you can explain the situation you're in they can work with you. I've heard a few people who had even forgotten their passports who were allowed entry. It all depends.

I've never heard of RFID in tires, but when I recently bought tires for my wifes CR-V, the reciept said that the information was transferred to the DOT.

Im assuming that is to help them maybe identify a vehicle if they find its charred out remains or if I tire breaks loose and kills someone etc....
