    I kinda want a Tablet...

So the more and more i see them the more i think to myself that i want a tablet.. I mostly just use my laptop to surf online and do very simple things.. I've even been considering trading/selling my laptop for one..

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the tablets vs like a laptop..

Also, iPad, Kinda, Galaxy, there are so many, what would be the best all around? Does the iPad have flash player?

Whats the biggest differences between the iPad's? I can pick up an original iPad for around 125 on up around here on CL..

i dont know, i just think it would be cool to get home, unlock the thing and play around for a little bit or mess around while laying in bed..

Apple products do not have flash player and are not supported by Adobe.

Thats what i thought... I have an iPhone 4S and its fine, but the lack of Flash player on a tablet would suck..

Yes you are correct. The lack of a flash player is a big hang up for me. A family member has an Ipad 2 they were going to use for school (note- was going to). Much of their online class work is on a site that requires a flash player. Huge fail for me. I know some folks will disagree for whatever reason but i really dont understand why they dont have a solution.

Anyway, there was a thread here recently about the Asus TF700 (i think is the model). It seems really nice.

I don't know about all tablets....but a iPad is usless for music unless you want to tote it around. All though my 2 year old son has one, and it's one of the best purchases we ever made for him

I think Android does. Don't quote me though. I'm not 100% on tablets.
              They're useless IMO.

Android does, but its rumored that Adobe will be ditching flash for all mobile processors (phones, tablets)

I have/had(I say "had" because the charge port recently went out on it) a Blackberry Playbook.

7" screen, 1080p HD display, front and rear cams.

It's not as big as an iPad but I dont llike carrying around those giant things. They're too awkward IMO.

The playbook has good size, good display and good battery time. My only issues had little-to-nothing to do with the tablet itself. Blackberry/RIM suck when it comes to games/apps so there werent many, if any, games and apps I had on it.

The cameras were mediocre at best. And my biggest problem was the chatge port. It's in the middle of one of the longer sides of the tablet, making it a weak point and achille's heel, of sorts.

1-year warranty and, of course, mere days after said date, the charge port broke/quit working. Local repair places are saying it's near impossible for them to get the pieces needed to repair it so Im gonna have to take it to/call RIM and that's gonna be a massive pain my ass.

I dislike the lack of things like a mouse/pointer, function keys, ability to right-click/copy+paste, lack of USB/SD ports, and I couldn't utilize a lot of drop-downs like the search box here or any kind of drop-down that I could type in. I'd have to actually go into the search page and do it the long way. Also, typing on a tablet can be a little wonky at times. You either have to one-hand it or use it like a big phone and thumb it, lol.

It really was a love/hate relationship. While i hated the issues above, I loved being able to see/watch things in HD, it's portability, and size.

I had it in my car when I swapped my steering wheel. It was small enough I could have it in there and it not be in the way. I could fit it in my pocket and carry it with me to the bathroom. I could use it next to someone and not have to worry about having a big, awkward piece of electronic equipment on my lap.

If the charge port werent broken and it still worked, I'd still be using it, lol.

Do they not make battery docking stations where you can charge the battery outside of the unit? I know it's an inconvenience but you'd still be able to use the device.

I feel that android powered devices are forum friendly. 90% of the time that I'm on this site, i'm using my HTC Droid Incredible 2, or my fiance's Samsung Galaxy S3.

I recently had to start using the firefox browser on my phone due to the OEM browser having issues with Photobucket.com linked photos on the forum. Firefox for android sucks and lags majorly. I use flash very often on these devices and have no issues. Of course, the more memory that the device has, the better chance it has at running flash elements within a website.

I adore my iPhone... but I wouldn't want it as a PC replacement. I'd assume I'd feel the same with a tablet, especially an iPad, which is essentially just an oversized iPhone.

Right now, tablets are a great supplemental computing device... but not the ideal primary device for anyone that uses a computer regularly. Right now, the majority of popular applications and websites are designed with traditional computers in mind. Using a tablet for many common things can be cumbersome.

I'd suggest going on eBay and picking up some cheapie Chinese tablet. They sell for $200 or less, and offer similar specs to many of the popular, more expensive units. It won't be as good as a pricier name brand, but it'll be close enough for you to see if you like it. If you hate it, sell it and get most of your money back. If you like it, upgrade to a better one when it breaks.

I picked up a Nook color on eBay for right around $100, then used it with a SD card that has CyanogenMod on it. Boom, Android Tablet for right around 100 bucks and it's not some generic shit. It's nice hardware made by a reputable company (Barnes and Noble)

I have the Nexus 7, 16g Version and it's fantastic.

The stock browser(Chrome) does not play nice with flash because Adobe is dropping support for devices, but you can dl browsers that work with flash.

Honestly I don't even miss it, because it's usually only good for imbedded porn lol.

I can sit here and say without a doubt that If my pc went down, I could do EVERYTHING from my Nexus and not feel like it was cumbersome.

Anyone who say's that, hasn't spent real time on a "good" tablet.

I can write word documents, and edit them.

I can download/upload torrents from torrent sites.

I can contol my tv and my DSLR camera remotely.

I can stream music and store it on the device for playback later.

                          I can watch movies.

                          I can read books.

If you use Teamviewer, you can remotely control your pc and transfer files for FREE!!!!

The tablet comes with Swype built in, so typing is ridiculously easy!

Im sure if you pay for it, there are great spreadsheet apps etc where you could easily log work etc.

I can obviosly access the web. The stock browser(Chome) is amazing with its tabbed browsing and the ability to open tabs from other devices(i.e. if you have a certain tab open on your pc, as long as your signed into chrome, you will see tabs from your pc and other devices listed on your nexus, so you just click it and it opens...

no need to search the web for a tab thats open if you can't remember the address but it's in fact opened on another device.

And then there are literally thousands of games.

                          Almost everything Apple has.

Except Apple is a dual core.

The nexus is a quad core tegra 3.....and its fucking amazing.

I play games on high settings and sync my ps3 controller and it becomes a sick gaming tablet.

                          GTA3....Dead Trigger.....etc...

Idk, I'ts not even about Google anymore or Android(though Jelly bean and project butter make the tablet smooth as fuck to use, NO MORE LAG at all)

I give it 4.5 stars out of 5....

Im not sure about the newer versions, but I have one from the first go around and it has no rear camera and no SD card.

Not a deal breaker for me, as I don't take pics with a tablet and 16g is enough for me.

You could always root it and make it so you can attach USB storage devices to the usb port and then you would have whatever amount of storage you need.....but I haven't maxed my 16g yet.

                          It's definitely worth a look!

                          http://www.google.com/nexus/7/

Btw, they also have a 10'' model now, I forgot about that.

                          Such a great device.
