I really wonder if a turbo V6 is going to hold up to the abuse of being in a police cruiser. And AWD to boot? Makes me wonder if they're going to start costing the taxpayers even more money to fix when they start to break. The Crown Vic was around forever, and used parts that were common throughout a number of models and generations of Ford/Mercury/Lincoln products (so the production volume was higher... higher volume = lower per-part cost.)
The new Tore-ass won't have the same volume, and there are few cars that share its goodies... and those that do are the higher-end models (such as the Taurus SHO and top of the line Lincolns.)

I like Ford's cars now, though they've ditched RWD and V8 power for all but the Mustang and the trucks... but they really don't have a suitable vehicle for a police cruiser. I think this new Taurus-based cruiser is even worse than the FWD Impala that was being used for the last decade or so...

I agree Deev, ford has really turned it around. Chevy however has gone down the shit-hole...

My brother is a cop so I'll ask if he knows when they are going to start using the new fords.

Chevy seems to be on the upswing. GM in general is finally getting a bit better. They're no longer a mass of badge-engineered brands. Chevy has authentic Chevy-built cars now (even the Sonic is a real Chevy, not a rebadged Daewoo as the Aveo was... though I'm sure there are some Daewoo-sourced bits...) Cadillac has some really nice offerings, though I think the new XTS is boring as shit (and unlike the CTS, which is a Cadillac-only platform, it shares a platform with Buick and Chevy vehicles.) Buick remains a badge-engineered brand, still around simply because the Chinese love it. Most Buicks these days are rebadged Opels. Good cars, but Buick as a unique brand is a thing of the past, it seems.

Well I could have sworn I saw a Dodge Dart police car around my neck of the woods but I could be wrong after seeing this link. All I saw was the front end from a distance and they both look very similar.

It's possible... I've seen some funky police cars!

The new primary police cruisers now are the Charger, Taurus, and I THINK Chevy is bringing back the Caprice... essentially revamping what was the Pontiac G8. I haven't seen anything concrete on the Chevy, though. I'm hoping that happens, as it'll be the best car of the 3.

I have seen a Tore-ass on the road, though.

yep, the new caprice is a cop-only car. i saw one when i was at GM's test track last summer, pretty plain but looked like a good car.

I see alot of 2012 Dodge Chargers in Springfield.

In my city cops use Ford Exploders and Crown Vics. My County uses Crown Vics, Suburbans, Raptor F150s and a Malibu.

I've seen a few Taurus cop cars and there's a few state and county sheriff's with chargers. They're still mainly crown vics.

The GM edition is "meh". Ford is just trying to stay in the game but I think the Charger is where it's at nowadays.

That doesnt look that bad for a new police vehicle.
