I saw that on a movie one time. I forget the name of it. But the same thing happened, guy was on death row, for his last meal he wanted a pb&j sandwich... a few minutes later the warden went in to get him to take him to the chair and found him dead in his cell.

I think death row should be like he lottery. Here's how.

Get a small prison next to a solitary hill. Clear the peak of the hill and install 5 lightning rods. ( multiple seater here). But in the middle of these rods before ground should be a cell, set up with highly conductive chest and head plates. Which run to ground.

Essentially leaving chance to get exploded by lightning at any time that a storm rolls through and the inmates are taken to their "specialized cells". If there are more inmates than cells, they are chosen at random.
