    Cell Phone Harassment Problem

    Hey guys/girls...

So I have been having this problem lately. I get harassing phone calls on my cell phone from people that I don't even know. It is starting to get extremely annoying. I listed two instances as examples.

    Instance 1:

Someone called me screaming at me that I had hit his car. This is simply untrue as I hadn't even left my apartment. The guy demanded my insurance information. I refused to give it to him. I then filed a police report. However, the number that showed up on my caller ID was a fake/unused number. When I called the number that showed up on the caller ID, it said that the "Verizon number I am trying to reach is not in use."

    Instance 2 (today):

I get a phone call from a lady that says I should stop calling her daughter especially since she's underage. Which I promptly replied that I had no idea what she was talking about. She told me not to let it happen again. Which I replied that if I didn't do it in the first place, how can it happen again. The number that showed up on the caller ID was blocked. I called AT&T (my cell provider) and they said that they couldn't track it if it shows up as blocked (which seems like BS to me).

Should I file a police report after Instance 2?

This has also happened quite a few times recently where I would get phone calls and the number that shows up in caller id is a fake. What should I do about this? I know I can change my number, but then I would have to change a LOT of accounts and such that are associated with this number (bank, job, etc.)

What should I do? I literally have no idea and the last time I filed a police report, nothing came out of it.

Don't answer.. I don't answer any call I don't know... I get spam/ scam calls all the time now.. No need for a police report.. They spoof random numbers so you will have no luck.. If you answer they know its a active number

So they have a random phone number generating program? That kinda sucks as it would mean that people have phone numbers just floating around on some list...

Did you leave your number on craigslist selling anything by any chance. When I recently sold things from craigslist they would ask me for a number to call me back I call them from a blocked number I never give them any kind of information except where to meet me at to make a sale thats it.

If I feel shits funny I dont give them any kind of info point blank. I wouldnt answer the phone at all once you do this they will eventually go away. If not contact your phone service provider and have them sequence a no-list no process call phone blocker. If you have an andriod phone they have an app for that too. Good luck bro

man that sucks. I used to get a lot of calls from telemarketers so i had a habit of not answering my cell when it was a number i didn't recognize. Now i have to answer my cell phone every time it rings because i'm looking for a job and praying that it is someone that wants to schedule and interview.

Hey man, i know theres a prank website out there where you can call a number and pick a situation, like angry mother or hit my car. Its like you just talking to a pre recorded message when it phones . Your situation sort of sounds like this.

I don't give out any personal information which is good. I just really want this to stop. I was getting a lot of calls and then I registered my phone on the donotcall list. It stopped and then I had the instance which I listed here as instance 2.

Exactly. I have this number for things like my bank and work. So I don't really know who is calling and such.

I really wish there was a way to trace these people. Or something. But if it is like what ChIoVnIdCa said, then it really sucks to just be on some list that people can use to scam and stuff.

"The guy demanded my insurance information.I refused to give it to him"
                Smart

Smart again. Your good at covering your ass and thinking ahead. You could have possibly set yourself up here. FILE A POLICE REPORT!!!
What can it hurt? Itll only help you.

Everytime i would file a police report. The police will have to do it. Your in the right. Eventually they will get tired of it and then and only then will you get things done!

I just got rid of my meth head nieghbors this way. Bomm boom boom all night long, tearing up the woods in a Jeep, yelling, tearing up the gravel road, trying to hit my neighbors dog, seting shit on fire. I called the cops, they showed up, the junkies had needles in their arms passed out, cops broke the door down, they went to jail, got out a week later. Started their shit again that night, i called again, cops showed, then left, the music went back up, i called again, cops showed, beat one in the head with a night stick, took them to jail and now they are gone. I told the guy who rents the house out if he ever let anyone like that live there again id run my Massey Ferguson thru the house then set it on fire.

Thats how i am. It works. You ought to try it. Need any more pointers on how to be an ass hole give me a PM.

If someone wanted my personal info, I would ask them for theirs first, then give an evil laugh and say see you soon and hang up.

As for the mother daughter incident, I would have acted *** and asked to speak to her husband.

If I answer the phone to a number not programmed in my phone and it's a telemarketer, strike up a conversation, tell them about your day, don't let them give you their pitch, then tell them to hold on a sec because you want to hear what they are selling. Put them on hold, they can't hang up, come back 15 minutes later. Tell them you're sorry and it will only be a few more minutes and put them back on hold.

I'd like to try that but I keep getting interrupted. I sometimes get calls from this random number and when I say hello, an air horn blows and some automated message invites me on a cruise.

Lately I've been getting calls from an unknown number and after I say hello

*awkward silence for 8 seconds exactly

                        caller hangs up.

The new thing I get now is a text from "Best Buy" saying I've won a $1000 gift card. I replied with "No I didn't"

A week later I received another one from "Best Buy" claiming I won a $1000 gift card. I replied with "Go f*ck yourself" (uncensored of course)

Haven't got one since. Apparently those are the magic words.

I answer my phone because I don't really have a landline phone as I am still in college/working/living in apartments.

Therefore, I use my cell number for everything.

After work, I will be filing a police report just to make sure I'm covered.

It kind of sucks that with technology now days... spammers/scammers are now spamming cell phones and such.

I went to the police station after work yesterday. The guy was basically like, it's a prank call or a scam and not to worry.

I pulled my phone bill which shows who I have called and such so it shoudl be relatively easy to prove instance 2 couldn't have happened.

Other than that, I wish there was a way to track these people. :/
