this was in Fullerton, CA Orange County where I live. It happened down the street from my house. 2 of those cops are in trial for this death

What's wrong is killings like this happen everyday and I would not have seen this in the news I read online had you not posted this link. Yet a few weeks ago I couldn't find a site that didn't have the Martin/Zimmerman saga on it. Both officer's should face jail time and not be out on PAID leave. That's just ridiculous, especially when they were caught red-handed.

people have been protesting for a while, and the only reason why the cops got charged is because the guy who got killed, Kelly Thomas, his dad was a retired Orange County Sheriff and he had lots of people helping him protest and Orange County DA filed an investigation because of so many protesters came forward and wanted justice

My comment was in more of a satirical vein... race never becomes an issue unless it's a "minority" that gets killed.

From the information I've read in the reports, these cops definitely need to pay.
Sadly, doing the work that I do, I see a LOT of the "underbelly" of society. Although I don't condone what these guys did, or any abuse by police officers, I can understand how seeing the shit day in and day out can color their view of the world, and severely lessen their tolerance of it. There are times where I have to mentally slap myself to keep from making stupid, unreasonable, prejudicial assumptions about people.

Probably more of a hate crime (hate crime doesn't have to be racial) than be racial motivated.

There's not as much coverage on this as other heated topics.

Now, if, and I state if, evidence surface which showed that the guy being white was the reason for the attack, then I'd say there'd be a racial issue involved. However, there's not. It's not like the video shows the Hispanic or Italian officer saying, "this __________ (fill in the blank with some derogatory word for a person who is considered white)", in a negative fashion as other events.

As far as I know from reading, the cops involved used excessive force. They had a report of a man vandalizing some property, responded, and beat him.

On another note, it's fucked up that shit like this still happens.

Being as though we all come from demographics, backgrounds, communities, etc., there will always be different views and opinions on many different topics. That comes along with the diversity of the world. One man's/woman's experience will always be different than the next. It could be ignorance, than again, it could be the difference of life situations. It's all relative how one person views it with the facts given in a certain situation.

That is quite true... though there is some level of idiotic behavior that often seems to be classified as "cultural". In certain areas, it's often far too easy to identify this behavior with certain groups of people, and to make matters worse, many times people of those groups will embrace that idiotic behavior as something definitive of their "culture".

That's one great thing about a forum like this. You don't know who you're talking to unless you've met them, they've identified themselves as part of a particular group, or you've seen pictures of them. Idiotic behavior on this forum is not indicative of any particular group, and it only identifies the offender as an idiot. It removes the racial bias almost entirely.
In the real world, that's simply not possible.
