Ralphie, do you have any Israeli heritage, or is it just your religion that ties you to the region?
And we really fund Egypt a considerable amount? Don't they kinda hate us?
But yeah, America has been the big, rich, obnoxious "center of the universe" for so long that of course other countries hate us. Countries that have less feel that we're living lives of excess and indulgence (a big part of the reason the Muslim extremists hate us), and countries that are essentially our equal (or in some ways better) hate us because we give the impression that we look down on them (and in most cases, we probably do!)
I'll admit, growing up in the US and never leaving its borders my entire life, I honestly don't know what life is like elsewhere. Growing up in the 80s, where the USSR was still a force to be reckoned with, and film from any country but the US was grainy and poorly produced, I always had a feeling that living anywhere else was going to be a huge step down. Like, people elsewhere don't have freedom, and get asked for "papers" wherever they go. They live in tiny flats, drive shitty cars, and everything is in short supply. Whereas in the US, we have multiple big cars, big plots of land, 8 bedroom houses, a swimming pool in every back yard, and everybody can make their fortune.
Not true of either her nor there... but that was the impression I was given of the rest of the world as a child (save for Canada... then and now, I don't see much difference between the lifestyle of a Canadian and a US citizen.)
