    dog bite to the face

so yeah was playing with my 1 year old german sheppard today when all of a sudden she decided she wanted to go cujo on me..

my upper lip is glued shut and my lower cheek is also glued shut. i really dont know why she would bite me im pretty confused because i play with her all the time and she never does anything like this, any ideas?

There really is no rhyme or reason...

Some things just set dogs off.

My buddy got bit in the face while he was sitting and petting a dog....don't remember the dog....

one minute he is petting it, then he hears a growl, looks over and bam.

    Animals are unpredictable.

      X2 it's a dog.
They don't have a proper understanding of consequence.

To her she may have been playing, just without realizing that you aren't quite as tough as her.

A friend of mines girlfriend had this happen to her

She and her friend were playing with a husky and then all of the sudden it attacked her friend and bit her. She had to get stitches to the face.

They ended up sending the dog away after that, the dogs behavior was monitors and determined to not be good so the dog was put down.

            Kill it.

Dogs are continuously on their last straw. The first time they bite is also the last time, because they will do it again.
By kill it, I meant Euthanize BTW.

It does suck. She may never do it again, it was just that day and that time.

Im not saying she was looking to be violent.

She probably was playing like Colin said, but they don't realize that they're playing is not the same as ours.

I didn't get bit by a German Shepard but I also got bit by a dog and had my upper cut (my upper lip) glued shut and a cut below my lower lip glued shut.

2, and maybe a third depending on how irresponsible my sister is going to be.

                          I will admit this:
These are family dogs. It's a family rule that once a dog bites, it's gone.
                          Not given away, Euthanized.
Now for the kicker: One of my dogs has bitten me twice.
For some reason an exception exists for this dog. Which is odd because he's retarded. (Actually the runt of the litter. I'm not kidding)
The first time I was giving him a bath and he nipped me. I reported it and nothing was done. I didn't care too much and moved on.
The second time I was disciplining him for chewing a hole in a wall (pics tomorrow maybe). He bit me and drew blood.

I'm usually a very calm person. That was the first time I was literally blinded by rage. I cannot believe that dog survived. It astonishes me to this day.

I reported it, and yet again nothing was done, and it was brushed off with a "We don't give a shit if he bites you" attitude.

^^^That was number 2. The next time I'm dropping him off in the woods and leaving him. The severity of the bite will determine if I bring a shotgun.

Family dogs are not the same a a personal dog.

I ask again do you own a dog? - As in did you purchase, care for, feed, pay medicals, accept responsibility?

Anyone who actually owns a dog understands that simply saying "Kill it" for an Accidental play Nip to the owner is stupid.

That case would be different if it wasn't the owner that was bitten, and if it was for no reason.
But from the OP's story, she was most likely playing and got a bit rough without realizing.

Financially, no. I've only began my own income just this past summer, and it isn't enough for an animal.

They do respond and act like they're mine. Even the retarded one.
