What would you do in this situation?

Ok, I sold my BBS LM reps to a kid that owns a Evo 8. Sold him the wheels for a good price, he knew the offset and and lug pattern before hand but now he's texting saying the wheels wont clear his Brembo brakes.

What would you do in this instance? It's his responsibility to ensure that the offset would work correctly with his car, not mine.

I dont wanna be an asshole but I just wanna tell him to go buy some spacers.

That's his problem. He could have done some more research before buying.

"Sold as is" is what i'd say. You informed him prior to him buying the wheels of what their specs are yet he still bought them.

That is his problem, and yes he should have done research, but if he hasn't been rude/disrespectful, you should give em a break. We all make mistakes! On the other hand though, if he's being an a-hole about it, then screw it.

Just tell him to go buy some spacers, he should haev done the research himself. If he cant figure that out then he should not be driving that car let alone a car. Just being real.

I did just that. The original owner of the wheels on them on a Evo 9 with no issues at all. There are tons of pics of Evo 8/9 on google roching 18x8.5 +30 offset with no issues. He said he has oem brakes but i think he's lying.

he should have test fitted before purchase. fitting really depends on more than just offset. some wheels have more mounting pad and less lip to achieve the same offset.

example: my buddy a bought some 17x8 and 17x9 starforms for his old cressida. the mounting pads are so deep on them that you cant see the extended lugs. his wheels have less lip, but clear his big brakes

my buddy b bought some work equips 01s brand new from the factory. because he has drum brakes in the back and doesnt need clearance, he special ordered his equips with 0 mounting pad so that he could get maximum lippage out of his rear wheels. those wheels however, would never clear disc brakes.

basically comes out something like so

                  lip , face, mounting pad

_|-- clearance for big brake kit, less lip

__|- standard clearance with more lip, will fit most brakes

__| drum brake clearance for maximum lip

he drives a performance car and was shopping for wheels on his own without the help of a performance shop or someone that knows wheels helping him.

he should have either educated himself on the kind of clearances he needed or worked with someone that did.

unfortunate situation, but there was no misrepresentation on your end, and therefore its his responsibility to take care of it.

If you did not use the words "They will fit on your car" then I say you're doing no wrong by telling him to improvise. If you did say something like that, then he trusted your judgement. And in that case you should take them back.
