Photoshop. Gimp sucked when I checked it out, but I've been using Photoshop since it was 1.0, so I'm biased.

Depends on what you want to do.
GIMP works for me, but I don't do photo editing for a living or anything. Photoshop has more features and a bit easier to work with IMO once you know your way around it.

I use Lightroom for 95% of the photos I edit. It has robust editing features that can be applied to multiple images at once, which saves hours of editing time, and it is great for cataloging photos if you want to be able to find something easily. I use Photoshop only on images that need more editing than Lightroom provides, only about 5%

Hey Jon, guess what? Gimp still sucks.

My vote is for PS. Use it on a daily basis.

If you're on a Mac look into Pixelmator. I got mine for free (for testing) and it's fairly powerful for how dirt cheap it is.

Photoshop for sure! I have it installed on my Desktop PC, Tuning Laptop and my G4. Never know when you might need to edit an image....

Gimp is a pretty good alternative from PS.

Eric will back me up, there isn't that much that can't be done with GIMP.

There are some things that aren't the same, but they are both pretty solid imaging programs.

+1. gimp blows, but if all youve ever used is MS Paint, its better than nothing and will probably be way more powerful than youll need.

I don't think it's that at all. I've self taught myself hundreds of applications including CAD and CAM systems.

For me it's the interface and how Gimp handles layers and other elements.
