Random "pop" (sytem alert) sound, but no alert...

Damn this is hard to describe!

Starting tonight, after a restart, my computer has been making a random "pop" sound... the sound of the little windows system alert bubble that pops up over the taskbar. No alert pops up, and I don't see anything weird running.

I know it's a longshot asking on here, especially with such a vague description. However, maybe... just MAYBE... someone has had a similar problem. That, or maybe someone can tell me a better term to search for, because all I get in a Google search is a bunch of instructions on how to disable the alerts, or the sounds that they make! I want to know WHY my computer is making these sounds, and how to make it stop!

    I'm running XP Pro, SP3.

A registry cleaner should clean stuff up.. Been there and I know exactly what you're talking about.

I'd be careful with registry cleaners, some clean more then there suppose to, lol.

You could try doing a clean boot to see if there something that may be causing it. Something I did a lot doing support for XP

Also do you have any new usb devices? Might be detecting it quickly without time to pop up and say "found new hardware". Just a stab in the dark, lol.

CCleaner for the registry clean up. Not sure that's going to fix your problem but it's a start.

Get CCleaner. Clean the Registry and that should oust your problem.
