Besides, I'd rather a licensed electrician does this kind of work for me. I'd like to be able to sleep knowing my house won't burn down because of a misplaced wire.

Quoted at $4k for a licensed electrician to do it.
Parts for us was maybe $200.

Neighbor is a licensed electrician. He'll check it in the next few days. After that we'll be good.

Hey man just make sure you keep one hand in your pocket while you're doing this stuff. 2 hands in the same panel is a quick way to kill yourself. Also make sure you get the breakers that are made for your panel. Square D's dont fit in Cutler Hammers, etc. And while you're at it check out about dropping gfci breakers on your 2 kitchen runs and your bathroom runs. it'll cost a bit more but then you dont need to mess with the gfci receptacles.

The power company does put those control tags on the meter box so they know if you tamper with it.

Like I said in the closed DIY thread, theft of services if you open up the meter and bypass it.

Tampering is different. I removed it to cut power.

Yeahhh... As soon as the power company comes to read your meter for the bill you are probably screwed. Chances are they don't care if you removed it to just cut the power, all they know is it was tampered with and they can do what they want from there.

Post up what happens after your next actual reading. lol.

My lock on my electrical thing dissapeared. a few weeks later they installed meters and said nothing about it.

If you do jump the wires for free power, I think its a 50,000 dollar fine.

Thats what the people who grow weed do. And it will be billed to the home owner. lol
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

It'll be interesting to see if they say anything. The new meters they put in are supposed to be wireless. So, theoretically it could be years before they notice.

wow really? After saying how dangerous this job is you tap it with a screw driver and watch for sparks before you use the meter?

I didn't think to use the meter. I remembered reading somewhere that you shouldn't use it on live voltage.

Remember, this DIY was written off of guess work.
