I finally have something to tell me how awesome I am!

I have, in my opinion, one of the most thankless jobs ever, a 911/police/fire dispatcher. We have to deal with people that are yelling at us, screaming for help, crying, wanting to commit suicide, and stupid things like barking dog calls and loud music. I also have to deal with about 10 officers all talking to me for 12 hours a night telling me where they are when they pull someone over, needing info about different things, etc. If I'm working the fire side then I have to deal with 3 fire stations (ambulances, engines/quints-the big fire trucks), all of this while still answering calls and multi tasking.

Without us though, no one would ever know who needs help, where to go, and all that good stuff. Dispatchers are pretty much always the LAST to the thanked, and the FIRST to be blamed. Anyone in law enforcement or fire departments knows this lol. It's nice to get some recognition every once in awhile

    BAM!

            Congrats man!

I know being a dispatcher is no joke. Being out in it is pretty crazy, but basically being the glue that holds it all together is a big deal. I've never needed any sort of emergency response (I may have called 911 when my dad died... that day is a blur...) but I'm definitely thankful for anyone that does what you do. I'm even more thankful for people that are good at it!

Congratulations, my mother is a fire department dispatcher, and has been for about 20 years, and was just promoted to supervisor. My grandmother is also a dispatcher, but for the police department, definatly a tough job.

I've always wanted to do that job but I imagine the stress is crazy.
