do any of you use any ad/pop up blocker programs?

i browse with safari. i have pop up blocker turned on as well as an ad block css file in place... but i still get random pop ups. mostly when im on sites downloading apps/games/etc.

i previously used ad muncher, which worked very well. but i cant get it to work anymore. is there anything good out there that blocks all unnecessary crap?

            thanks all.

i did a little more reading, and i found adblock for windows/safari. i just had to enable the "develop" menu and enable 3rd party extensions. then i was able to install the adblock extension.

But then Deevergote won't get commission from the ads at the top of the screen when we log in.

Actually i installed one for IE but i don't like how it makes certain websites not load up like my yahoo email. When i go to browse my email, it doesn't load ever and it only started after i installed the adblocker so i'm going to uninstall it.

Make sure the popups aren't due to malware on your system. I have that issue right now... I randomly get a popup for no reason. My searches are also redirected.

have you tried using Hijackthis? careful with it though because it is how you say... a double edged sword. Delete the wrong entry and you could damage your computer.

if you run that program, paste the log file to that website posted above and it will run through a database of what should be there and what shouldn't be.

Yeah, I used it yesterday. I got rid of 3 things, but I still have the same problem.
I ran a few other programs, all of which found different stuff.

Usually, once all that is done, I finish it off with ComboFix, which seems to work wonders. BUT, it requires a restart, and I've got a Kernel32 issue right now that prevents my computer from restarting... SO, until all my work is out of the way, I can't restart the damn machine! I'm waiting to get my backup hard drive back from my friend so I can back everything up... then TRY to fix it.

you're working from a netbook aren't you? if so that certainly does make it harder reinstalling windows.

No, desktop. I only use the netbook in my car... it's a pain in the ass otherwise! That's my fallback if I lose this desktop, though.

Have you looked through your startup items?
Go to run, then type in msconfig
Go over to the right most tab, and uncheck the things you don't want running.
There's also a startup folder. Look for things in that.
