Another "talk me out of it" thread

Ok here goes. I got this kid up the street from me who has a 90 Accord EX with an H23A VTEC swap. This is a JDM swap and no Frankenstein BS. It has an H22 transmission. Here are some good and bads about the car:

    Good:
DC sports header with greddy exhaust
    decent interior for its age
hasn't been wrecked in the front
    H23A swap with H22a transmission
    17's that need tires

    Bad:
    VTEC doesn't work
The whole wiring harness has been butchered and needs the proper upper half intake manifold
exhaust leaks out the ying yang
    P13 ECU
    Venom module
    Paint is done
    Riced tail lights

Its a decent average shape car, but the kid and his parents are retarded. He doesn't have the slightest clue what he has or what the car is worth. I started off offering him $1000 but long story short me and the parents agreed on $1400 if I keep the rims. But today, there was this BIG argument on how to sign the title the "proper" way. In SC, all you do is sign the back and hand it to the next owner and collect the currency. Well after 3 weeks of dealing with these people and finally hopefully coming to a conclusion, I went to their house today to pick the car up. Well they were STILL undecided on the title crisis and I told them plain as day to JUST SIGN IT AND I WILL GET OUT OF YOUR HAIR. Well after arguing for another 30 minutes I finally told them to just keep the damn car (I was bullshitting to get them to make a fucking decision) and I went home. The kid called me up and said if I can't wait until tomorrow to get it (in which I have been told this at least 5 times before) then don't worry about it. So I said well man, just keep it and I will find something else to waste my time on. I went to the bank to deposit my money and he calls me as soon as I got home to say come get the car because they signed the title. At this point I flew into his ass AND his parents on speakerphone because they act so retarded and can't decide to sign the title or not and THEN decide to sign the bitch as soon as I get home from putting my money back into the bank because I live in a bad hood and my safe is only good for documents and not money.

So what I am asking is, do yall think I should just leave it alone and take it as a bad omen or should I run like hell back to the bank and pick this car up to resell?

    Offer $1200 or $1000
You've spent a good amount of time arguing with them. Tell them it's compensation for what you'd normally make.

Idk man... sounds like headache and a half messing with someone else's failed project. Are you for certain that what you listed above is all that is wrong with it?

Yea, I have been trying to fix the bitch for the past 2 years but I never had the proper parts to do it. I now have ALL proper parts to accomplish the task but he doesn't want to pay me to do the work and I just simply offered to buy the car so I could resell it but obviously thats hard too. Its mostly the boy's parents that are causing the problems because they are ungodly HARD HEADED. I think I will call it quits.

yeah you're probably doing yourself a favor by not buying it.

I mean it REALLY doesn't have any major issues running wise, it just doesn't hit VTEC and the IACV is chilling under the tb (reason why I said the harness was doo doo) hooked up to the harness but not hooked up to the intake manifold. I was actually going to trade this car and an auto H22a prelude for a fully built and boosted Integra GSR DONE RIGHT. I would have around 4000 in the Integra.

Car sounds like a POS. I'd pay for whatever the motor is worth, if its worth anything, which is nothing near $1,400. I mean it as an h22 transmission, which is cool, but it's mated to a h23. Both will have different "unknown mileage"; you really wont know what your messing with. And as far as you know, you'll have to fix the exhuast, the intake, and the wiring. That alone, will blow any savings you made from not buying a properly swapped CB. There's this unwritten rule all "tuners" know about, DON'T BUY ANOTHER MANS PROJECT. There are going to be far more problems then what that kid says it has. by sounds of it, I bet he bought it off someone else since he doesn't know what it's worth. Are receipts even provided ? Another thing to add on, I also bet he beats the shits out of the car. Makes sure you getting the right H23 (blue tops are vtec, black tops, which are older, are not). If vtec isn't working, it could be becuase of low oil levels, which is a result of one of three things; kid doens't know jack on how much oil it needs; oil being burnt; leaking oil. hell, it could be all three.

I sometimes offer free reports to some members, but I'm sorry, I just don't think it'll be worth the few minutes to even check this car out.

Anyhow; the law in Florida is pretty much the same, both parties sign and done.

+1 on compensation for all the aurguing. If you really want this car, Don't go any higher than $800. Sorry for sounding all conservative for a car that could have much potential, but you'd have to understand, alteast from my perspective, modded cars w/ problems arn't not worth shit.

I understand that. Ill think I will let it go to somebody else that wants to fix it.

Yea there are better deals out there. I bought a 92 LX with a JDM F22B DOHC swap for $400, with a rebuilt head on top.

I would have walked away if they couldn't figure out to just sign the title, for that price anyways.

Well the thing is, I already have the parts available in my shed except for the harness and those are dime a million at pull a part.

yeah dude you're doing your self a favor just let it go I would have called it quits in the first visit. I don't like hard headed confrontational types. They are probably the reason why the car has it's problems. "You don't need to buy that part son it runs fine without it!" "It doesn't need premium gas! that's a waste it runs fine with regular!"

And if it doesn't go smoothly the first time you deal with someone then it never will.

I'm gonna have to disagree with most of the people here. IF (and only if) the motor is an actual jdm H23A vtec bluetop, the motor alone is worth WAY more than what you are offering. With only (from what you describe) vtec not working (which most likely is laziness of the installer not running the wire) and just the intake thing, and otherwise it runs fine, that's one HELL of a deal.
