Buying a Taurus is just foreshadowing what's going to happen.

I'm not the least bit surprised it happens. Sucks to be in your shoes with the situation, but really...A Taurus? That's like me when I traded my Accord for the Jetta. What the hell was I thinking?

The girl I'm seeing now told me when we first met "my car is in the shop for some weird electrical problem"... I said "Oh, you drive a VW!"... the response, "How did you know?"

I thought you got it for free.

          Still, 200 dollars--decent investment, considering.

It is a taurus. And although great cars, they're not known for great trannys.

          Time for that replacement F.

          life is good.

Why not just swap out the tranny. There not that hard to do. You could probably get one for under $200.00.

the problem is that they ALL sucked, so finding a tranny that's in good shape might be tough!

Well my neighbor has a 1996 Taurus with a brand new trans. Body is destroyed.

I just DONT want to do another FWD trans swap.

They aren't that simple to do, gotta drop the subframe, hoist the engine, the trans are awkward shape. Overall not an enjoyable experience.

I know what's involved with swapping a Taurus trans. I have done literally 100's of them. Hardest part is suporting the engine so you can drop the subframe out. All told is maybe a 4-5 hour job.

Also if you do get one make sure it's the right one, they use 2 different trans.

It was a 220-hp Yamaha V6 in the first two generations, and a V8 in the third-gen (failure) Taurus. I have no knowledge past this regarding engine/transmission combos on this car, but I'm sure a SHO V6/5-speed swap would work.

All you'd need to do is swap the clusters, install a shifter, run like 4 wires for VTEC, and tap a tranny!

Dude you trans had a crack, and leaked that much fluid, No trans would last that long in that state, you can't seriously think that would have lasted more than a week.
