Its income tax refund time...what are you using?

Im trying to get the most of my tax refund as possible. I heard that h&r block isnt that great from a coworker. He goes to a guy that does it for him and always gets a lump some back. I wanna do the same, but I dont know anyone. So what would you guys suggest? Turbo Tax?

        Turbo Tax.
You don't have to like what he did, but I would hope that you can appreciate the time, money and love that went in to the build. If you can't, you're not really an enthusiast, just another dumb kid with a car.-visualpoet

          taxact.com

Web based and is much cheaper than turbotax with the same quality. Unless you have a massive amount of itemized deductions or a profitable business, an accountant is unnecessary. I am an accountant so I know.

I use taxact because it's much cheaper than the time it'd take me to do it by hand.

I've used turbotax since 2003 when I joined the military....so simple and I always got back nice amounts...its nice that it gets accepted immediately and I get my money much faster then everyone else.

Also active duty get our 1040 or whatever much earlier then the rest of the country.

We also get a discount on turbotax...but I'm not active anymore so idk what I'm going to do this year...I'm not filing joint with my wife this year so ill probably use turbotax.

                You'll get a standard deduction of $5,700
                Personal exemption of $3,650
Making work pay credit of $400

So take your gross income and subtract the above numbers to get taxable income. From taxable income, multiply the first $8,500 by 10% and the rest by 15%. Add these 2 numbers to get your tax. It'll then depend on how much was withdrawn over the year as to whether you owe more or will receive some back.

Any of you getting alot back each year: You DO understand you can adjust your w4 withholding statement with your employer so you pay less in during the year and pocket more each week, right? Anytime you get alot back, you've essentially just loaned that amount to the IRS throughout the past year at 0% interest. Increase your withholdings on the w4 and pocket it instead of loaning it to the IRS! Unless you just love the IRS.

                    Why? You'll get more back...

Filing while married to someone in the military, who's 900 miles away is gonna be a bitch. Especially if we file joint. FML.

I dont know just how much im getting back yet but Id like to use it to perhaps buy my exhaust. I also need new shoes and a few other things, lol.

Basically because her father is claiming me as a dependent since I live in his house and DON'T pay rent.

Next year well file joint and by then well both hopefully be working ft jobs.

You can do that in NY?? Hm. Well, i dont know if you can do it here. My mom claims my bro(he's in college/no job), but i dont think she could claim me cuz im married. Not sure how that works.

Im interested in finding out how me and my wife are gonna file. Seperate would be easier but joint would net more currency.

Turbotax for the past few years. Works better for me, than H&RB did.
