    too good to be true?

I found a black 92 accord ex coupe for $400 on craigs. 5 speed!!
    160 000 miles

the guy said that it needs like $500 to be put back in circulation. Said it runs good transmission and engine is good just some dings dirty inside and smog. Said it would pass smog for sure.

even after all that it would be more than a grand to be on the road and back in to the cb7 game.
plus my girl needs a car and my DA9 is automatic (all she can drive) so it'd be fucking perfect if it all worked out well.

saw the pictures and it looks to be in fair shape.

So me and a buddy are going to take a look at it tomorrow morning and see if it all checks out.

I'm going to see if all the paperwork checks out then test drive it for a while see how it feels how it sounds. Check for smoke, see if any warning lights go off and if all is well I'm going for it.

I want to know what you guys think. Scam? major deal?
Anything you would check for to make sure you don't get screwed in the long run?

Good luck man, sounds like a steal.

I've been chasing the seller of a black 93 5 speed coupe here for $400 as well. It has some minor damage, but the guy has emailed me back twice and wont return me calls or arrange a time to meet him.

yeah i found a 91 LX coupe auto, guy said it needed a headgasket, bought it for 300 and had to replace the entire longblock b/c it was so badly neglected. I did all that (head sent to machine shop, valves lapped, new valvstem seals, headgasket kit, mint block found on craigslist) and now when I go to start it yesterday, the fuel pump quit on me. I'm already in it about 1100 so far. And it still needs an alignment. So idk, just make sure you inspect it well.

I originally bought it to flip, but now since its costing me so much I'm thinking about just keeping it as a DD to drive back/forth to school since the body is in pretty good shape and gas is creeping up there again, so 87 would be slightly cheaper than 91. It'll prob. Beat my H22 in gas mileage too.

yeah I'm for sure putting it under scrutiny before I decide to buy. He said it was running and running well which to me means engine should be fairly smooth and shifting should go to every gear without a problem.

If that is not the case then I will pass. I need a running car not a "mechanics special"

        going in a couple hours.

so anything else you would check for?

          So I made the deal.

it looked like it'd been sitting forever it had no plates no tags no pink slip the interior was dirty but not terrible there was some ungodly wiring mess under the dash and where the stereo should go. The trunk had misc. parts and was also quite dirty. And I don't think its had any fluid or filter change in years. Also the ABS ligt came on for a second when driving it but thats all that flashed also the tires were low from sitting so long so when I drove it I had to take it slow.

heres the good. I turned it on after droping a battery in and some gas..... it purred!! I heard no knocks, it was nice and quiet, the idle was perfect, there was no smoking or visible leaking. It also shifted very well even though I only went first second and reverse.
The body was sooooo straight it was original paint and except for a few deep scratches and chips there was no rust!!

The guy was pretty straight forward and said what was wrong and why he didn't bother getting it running I bought the story but the car is what really sold me. Although there was no official title and it was recovered from a wreckage yard the guy had all prior bills of sale including the one from the yard and every other needed piece of paper to get it going.

So I'm pretty exited I haven't brought it home yet because i really don't have any way to but i shall have it soon and I will take pictures.

Ok finally got pictures of the cb.

here it is as it arrived.... I actually drove it home. Like a seven mile trip tires were low, steering was soooo miss-aligned, the temp gauge didn't work, It was throwing an ABS light. and theres all kinds of protruding wires from previous alarm systems and sound equipment.
Besides that she was a beast.

Here she is what ya think?

You may also notice that some smart alec forced a sedan door handle on to where the correct driver's side handle should be.

And she's a little dirty I'll clean her up and get working on her soon.

No rust? Or is that just a lot of dirt?

Look nice man. The interior actually looks decent even though it's a low resolution picture. Get her fixed up and enjoy the ride!
