In the specific case at hand, I agree with the decision...

However, this opens the door to SERIOUS censorship, and that's a very bad thing.

Google will fight it. Unlike the US Government, Google has tons of cash.

              Does not help

This sort of thing does not help.

It would take little effort for someone to do this to her or anyone else again, and not get caught.

It is easy to go to starbucks and use their wifi, and it is easy to create throw away email accounts.

None of the information that google is supposed to provide will prove anything unless they were posted from his home with his main email address.

Even worse the guy could use a proxy ip address.

I understand that you do not want to get bullied on the internet, but then post under other names, or keep stuff off of public domain, require passwords or direct links to get to things.

I also hardly doubt that it played a role in anything to do with her professional life, I have video's with my name in them on youtube, and they do not come up anywhere when I google search myself. Also what employer is going to see youtube hits for your name and then watch the video and search the comments for bad things other people said about you...

I would be more concerned with the fact that her name is now known from this lawsuit and myspace pages will pop up, which employers do look at.

and you can look at hers if you want, since it is open domain...

right now she is deleting people that she doesn't need in her life... stuff I and no one else not on her friends list need to know...

It all comes down to giving too many people access to your stuff on the internet.

Damn why the hell do you guys think its bs?

Anytime you post disparaging remarks about someone in any form of media(cb7, youtube, email etc) it is considered libel, or defamation of character.

                  It is ILLEGAL.

Everyone needs to stop thinking that the internet is a public place where anything goes.

I believe as much as the next guy that you should have the freedom over your "space" on the interwebz and be able to decide what and when you do it but if i found videos of my wife on youtube with hurtful or hateful remarks i would want them taken down and charges filed against the people responsible....as i would hope anyone here would as well.

It would be the same if people were posting things at the town hall on the bulletin board.

Times have changed but laws are in place for a reason, and it is starting to catch up with technology rightly so.

Everyone wanted to cry bs in the thread about the children who committed suicide......well the government is stepping in where parents are unable or unwilling to do.

Kids get carried away on the internet because parents allow children under the age of 18 to have a computer in their room and it goes unmonitored.

Thats bs, when i was 14 i had to use my parents computer(as did my bro and sis) and it was limited to an hour each and what we did was monitored.

Nowadays 12 year olds got netbooks and smartphones and do pretty much whatever they want.

So when they bully a kid online and cause duress and the kid to hang themselves then the parents and the child should be held responsible and Google should def give up their information, as it is PUBLIC information(ip address ect)

And to whoever said Google won't give it up....think again. Google has already cooperated with the authorities on multiple accounts. They are smart about how they are portrayed in the media.

They WILL give it up without hesitation because they know they have no case. The government may not have more money then Google(then again they print the money) but nonetheless if a judge orders it, Google will not fight it i guarantee it.

This right here....this this this this this. THIS.

I didn't have my own computer until I was 16. I always used the "family computer" and my parents would walk by and see what I was doing randomly. Even after I got my own computer, they would still walk in and see what I was up to. THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.

My 13 year old sister does some shady ass shit on the computer. Always deletes the history when she is done and if ANYBODY starts walking up the stairs (computer is at the top of the stairs) she IMMEDIATELY clicks out of everything really fast and acts like she is doing something else...she will click on the start menu and act like she is looking for something. Every single time. You never see what she is doing because she is so shady about it and deletes the history. AND MY PARENTS DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. They don't monitor her or even ask what she is up to. And guess what....they just got her an ipad....oh boy oh boy more illegal shit to do unmonitored.

I'm with you man...all the way on your post.

In this case i believe is more focused on the videos of her that were posted with out her consent. Dont know how will the remarks will play in court unless they were threats or continuous harassment that eventually effects reputation or life out side the web.

                          Kids were never stupid.

Even in 1935 kids had scams.

Now it is even easier to pull scams.

You think a 13 year old can't google how to throw a line snorting party?

                          GTFO

So they know how to hide their tracks better then you because theyve grown up on computers....not that we don't know how to do it but we weren't allowed.....they are....

It just blows my fucking mind.

I don't give a flying fuck what my kids say or what the entire school is doing, they will not have their own pc until they like juniors in high school...like me.

And they will not have a cell until they drive like me. And even then theyll be lucky if it is a smartphone....if they need a phone to call me in an emergency then it doesnt need text or web.

They can hate me all they want, they will respect it one day.

Man I hear you. I didn't have my first cell phone until I was 17...AND it was a prepaid phone! I got a job shortly after and ended up having to pay for it myself anyways. Yet my sisters had them young...my sister that is 13 now got hers when she was 8. YES 8!! What the FUCK did she need it for at that age???

Times are different man...it's like I was the guinea pig child. "Let's NOT raise our other kids like we raised him" you know?

If you do a good job of raising your children then there really shouldn't be any problem with them being on a computer or owning a phone, at any age.

As to this case, I agree that they should turn it over. If someone has been so wronged as to file a civil suit against someone for their information then it's probably something pretty serious. No one is going to go to court if I call them a cuntmuffin on CB7. However, if I make death threats through a YouTube video then I should definitely be turned in.
