For those of you with BRAKE LAMP problem... This could help.

Having tried to figure it out for weeks now, I decided today to try and change my brake lamp switch. Not knowing how to remove it, I cracked it. By breaking it, I realized how easy it is to remove it... I quickly drove to the yard with as much caution as possible since my brake lights were no longer functional without the switch and put 2 in my pocket. It didn't change anything. The light still goes on. I know it is not my taillights because I tried with my friend's ones and still no positive result. However, today by driving back from work about an hour ago (night time) I realized that when I step on the brake pedal, my dash light goes on even though I never turned it on. There is obviously a short circuit somewhere. The brake lamp switch wires are somehow interacting with the dash light one. If I turn the engine off, open my door and step on the brake,I would hear this little sound it usually does when you open your door and have your dash light on. I'll check it out on Saturday hopefully. It is my last remaining electrical problem.

If you have tried everything from changing all your bulbs, to try with different taillights and it still goes on, check for a short circuit under the dash.

are we talking about the stuck BRAKE LAMP indicator on the little diagram of the car? the one that means you have a blown tail bulb?

the BRAKE (e-brake) light coming on would indicate a mechanical issue...

Yeah, I did ground the wire, but it comes on usually the first time i start the car, if i drive it, shut it off, turn it back on it stays off.
          wat?

I'm talking about the brake lamp... Not the E-brake one. See...the thing is that I don't want to counter it... I want it to work the way it should and that's all. I don't see why people keep telling me how to counter it. I just want to fix it properly. It is definitely a short circuit in my case.

i had the same problem, ive tried replacing the boxes a few times myself, and havent gotten it to turn off. for me it usually stays off when i start the car, until the first time i press the brakes, and then it lights up and stays on.

its a possibility the old drying wiring is starting to increase in resistance (decrease efficiency) enough to trip a stock-calibrated checker. or it could be a short, like you said. ive never bothered diagnosing further than replacing the box, be sure to post up your results if you do end up finding out something else that is causing yours.

and C91BLX7 - according to the wiring diagram the white/grn wire is the ultimate control of the light. being that its far from the tails up in the dash, perhaps somewhere along the way the ground connection youve made is broken?

yeah this brake lamp deal is pretty annoying. mine use to come on and stay on when I first wired up my spolier brake light. I took the third brake light out and it came on. So i had to put it back in cause that shit irrates the ever living shit out of me. So basically I have six brake lights when i stop looking like some damn officer supernerd of the startship enterprise. I know everybody's pointing and laughing at me.

I can't fricking find that short! There are hundreds of wires under the dash and there's almost no room for you to do anything. I guess I would have to take the dash out It's such a mess down there. There used to be an alarm system installed by the previous owner that I've removed because it would make the car go insane sometimes. I still see a lot of wires that don't belong there and everything is just hanging. Unless I remove the dash I guess there's no way for me to find the short and rearrange things down there.

How hard is it to remove the dash?

Instead of going to the trouble of removing the dash, I'd just remove your driver seat. It's only held in by 4 bolts, and much easier to take out then the dash.

talking about the box in the back for the brake light ...light... it uses relays...I don't know the specs on those and they don't "lool" like relays...but you could make your own circuit board or just run wires to relays.

The problem is not comfort but reachability... I cannot start examining ever single wire when I can't even see properly and when there are many bunch of wires behind other wires and they're all twisted and taped. I would actually need to untape them to take a proper look.

What box? The ones behind the tail lights? The problem is not coming from there but from a short somewhere under the dash or perhaps somewhere on it's way to the back of the car.

Check the taillight bulbs themselves. One set (or both can't remember) is a dual filament and I had one filament melt and fall into the other filament creating a short one time. Worth checking.

I checked all my bulbs already, tried with different taillights, changed brake switch and even chopped off a dirty plug at the back of the car and replaced it thinking it could be the source of a problem.

It's definitely somewhere where both the dash light wire(s) and brake lamp wire(s) are close to each other.
