Thinking about moving to Maryland, Opinions?

So here is the deal. I have lived in the deep south my entire life. First Texas, then Tennessee and now Mississippi. It has been all good until now. I am just tired of living here. I want to move somewhere different, and try something else. The northern states have always appealed to me except for the winters and the higher cost of living. Now I have looked into Maryland for several reasons, and thanks to PwrUsr1 I have really started considering this place. I'm not really interested in Baltimore because of the crime and I'm just not attracted to the big city, but I think some of the other out lying areas would be very nice. Also you have pretty easy access to some of those larger nothern cities if you ever wanted to do anything. The other big draw to Maryland was the lax marijuana laws they have But I digress....

Does anybody who has ever lived/lives in Maryland have any insight into this subject? It will probably be another 2 years before I get there, but it's never too early to plan ahead. Anyways post up your comments.

MD is nice. If I didn't have so many ties up here, that's one place I would consider. Nice weather overall, with cold winters and hot summers. Close enough to a lot of nice places. Plus, the best meets have been in MD so far!

well, maryland is a nice place to live in my opinion. if you like varying climate, it's not bad. you get a nice taste of the heat in the summer time and the winters are cold - but you won't normally see subzero temperatures or anything... but definitely snow.

there are plenty of cities in the area (baltimore, annapolis, DC, ocean city) for fun stuff to do and college tuitions here aren't too expensive at all (if you plan on going to a university here).

crime isn't too bad, except for in the cities like you stated. i would reccomend living somewhere like towson (more north) or waldorf (more south). these are both cities, but nothing too condensed... there is a lack of the constant crime that you would observe in cities like baltimore or DC.

housing cost would probably differ just as it would anywhere else, depending on the usual factors. maryland state tax is 5% too, just FYI.

as far as the cops and laws reguarding car modification - emissions is tested only once, which is as soon as you enter the state or register a new car in the state. same with inspection. i've never had a problem with the cops around here at all. i've only heard of guys getting pulled over b/c of the usual ricer shit - which you are obviously clean of.

i live in california, maryland (lol) and it's not bad there either... but smaller than any of the above cities. still a nice little area, and the main roads were recently repaved. it's a blast to drive around there... lots of fun roads. also, the maryland international raceway ( www.mirdrag.com ) is only a 20 minute drive from california, md and about 45 minutes from waldorf. GREAT dragstrip! now... i'm up in school right now at towson... and i like it around here. there's a lot to do and all, baltimore is only 20 minutes away... but it's just harder to work on your car and stuff, b/c of the fact that it's more like a city. and the roads suck, so you'll scrape piping/chassis a lot and ride rough everywhere (cracked my mugen lip off here). but it's a GREAT area if you're going to school or trying to get a job - LOTS of businesses. very commercial area. the state of maryland is right in the middle of some great states too... new jersey, new york, pennsylvania, virginia... so it's not TOO far of a drive in either direction.

all in all, i've lived here my whole life and never had any major problems. i always hear my friends talking about how they'd rather live ANYWHERE else and how it sucks... but doesn't everyone say that about where they live (usually)?

oh yeah, maryland is the birthplace of cb7tuner.com

MD doesnt have the dynamic, interesting terrain that NY has... but from what ive seen MD has been very nice (made a few trips down there myself). best part of it is that its the land flowing with york peppermint patties

ive lived in new york all my life, and i really like it. It has beautiful mountians, and all sorts of wild life. I dont think i would ever consider moving someplace else. Plus the fact that every road in new york is ones own personal race track

Damn, I really want to leave now. Too bad I can't

Here is the big question....what about the snow and the freezing cold weather in the winter? How bad is this shit? Remember I have lived in the south all my life, 6 in. is a lot of snow.
