Hey don't mean to jack the thread and I know I'm kind of late, but I thought it would be cool to compare some of the pictures from Grossingers

        Jennie G. Building -

Right after they tore down the walkway that connected it to the main lobby compared with how it looks today.

        Outdoor pool -

        Indoor pool -

Awesome Awesome Awesome! Great pictures. I'd love to visit these places and check out the machinery and just wander about what went on. Also, can you find the random brake rotor? O.o

i reorganized the main navigation list in my first post. ive also added aerial shots of just about all the places ive been to, each one is posted at the top of its collection.

PowderedMilkMan - i LOVE the pictures! i took the liberty of switching one of the pictures that you had of the outdoor pool, i hope you dont mind, i think its a better matched angle for the then/now comparison.

Yeah that picture works a lot better. I think it's amazing how places like that become abandoned, I couldn't imagine that happening to one of the places I regularly visit.

So yesterday we went to check out a large, unique spot down in northern jersey. some of you may recognize it from when it was featured as a crazy haunted place on Ghost Adventures. let me tell you, this was NOT EASY. it is circled by main roads and developments, and patrolled multiple times every hour by local sheriffs/officers.

check out this email i found:

There are actually two different locations, separated by a long road through acres of woods and grass and random paths. the first spot we checked out is called the Essex Mountain Sanatorium and was a hospital for tuberculosis patients. with modern medicine developments this place became useless, so it has been closed for decades, and is actually currently being prepared to be completely demolished, with a few of the buildings (including the main one) already gone. each building is fenced off with barbed wire around the perimeter =X it is up toward the top of the mountain (hence the name) but was commonly referred to as the Hilltop. Jeff from GA didnt mention this place at all, and it wasnt long (less than 2 minutes?) before we were shooed out by a cop lol.

the second, larger campus at the end of the long road down the mountain is still part of the Essex state hospital but it is called the Overbrook, and was an institution for mentally/criminally insane people. this place is left standing, but actively patrolled, and is supposedly haunted, with over 10,000 patient deaths while it was in operation. we were able to get into this institution, and this is where most of my pictures come from. but i will start with the:

                            Essex Mountain Sanatorium

we drove in through the entrance at the bottom of this aerial picture, through the circle.
