    Replacing metric hardware the non-OEM way

    i dont know why, but all of the hardware stores around me sell just about only american sized bolts and nuts. they have a VERY limited selection of metric, and none of which end up being what i need.

    so that leads me to 2 questions. the first is my goal, the second is curiousity.

    1. id like to replace most of the 10mm bolts in my engine bay, since they are the most common, all over, and they rust up quick. are there any places out there (PDQ? hardware sites?) that sell replacement 10mm honda bolts, the ones with the loose washer attached to them? id like to buy a box of em, anti-rust finish if available. ive searched for a very long time, the only things ive found was random hardware on websites, nothing actually sold as honda replacement bolts. so this leads me to question 2:

    2. since all hardware stores online have everything labelled by thread size/pitch/etc, whats the size of the 10mm bolts? 6x1.25mm ? if somebody knows for sure, a list of the other standard sizes would only help. (like the 12's, 14's, 17's)

      thanks steve, i ended up finding what i needed.

      for future reference, here are the bolt/pitch sizes on the car. there are various other bolts with special thread pitches, but these are the most common.

      hex head size :: diameter(mm) x thread pitch(mm) :: drill size (for tapping)

      8mm :: M5 x 0.8 :: (4.2mm)
      10mm :: M6 x 1.0 :: (5mm)
      12mm :: M8 x 1.25 :: (6.8mm)
      14mm :: M10 x 1.25 :: (8.6mm)
      17mm :: M12 x 1.25 :: (10.5mm)

      be aware that on majestic/at the dealer, thread pitch is assumed, so bolt sizes are listed as diameter X length, eg: M6x20 is a hex bolt with a 10mm head, 20mm (2cm) long, with an assumed thread pitch of 1.0mm.

        I've thought about this too! Whenever I go junkyarding, I'll take whatever fasteners/brackets/misc. that are better than mine. I always look for the fasteners that still have the yellow zinc plating on them instead of corrosion!

        Weird, I know

              thats not weird. i always raid junkyard interiors for brand new looking 10's... they corrode quick though.

              i bought these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 100% exactly what i was looking for... black phosphate finish with an attached, but loose, washer

                  bump for a good thread.

                  im trying to find bolts to mount my engine onto an engine stand and i need the bolts that go through the block (where the tranny normally mounts)

                  the cheapest bolt is the driver's motor mount at 97 cents from slhondaparts. it is like 4 inches long but i can use spacers from work.

                    cp[mike], I'm in the process of powder coating ALL my bolts, because of the same thing. Not too difficult to do. Maybe I'll post up a DIY...
