    Bumper Pole Help

    Hi all,

I just got a bumper pole off ebay (stellar deal). I was just wondering has anyone installed their own? I'm just wondering what its like to install in the bumper itsself.

This pole does not have the OEM switch, and I was just wondering if anyone has a schematic of how to install it the Honda way. I'm sure I can figure it out to get it to work, but I didn't know if anyone knew an easier way to do it.

Basic Pole Wiring no oem relay method

On the bumper pole there's 4 wires. There is the Black & Red (gives power to the motor + L.E.D) and there are the 2 yellow wires which control the pole movement up/down.

To route the wires from your console to your engine bay, look for a rubber grommet piece that is on your passenger side under the carpet right above the ecu guard plate.

On the pole switch itself, there are matching yellow wires which need to be extended to the bumper pole yellow wires. There are also two other wires for power and ground. The (+) & (-) can be tapped in a nearby close source. (I routed and tapped the (+) back to the fuse red wire. (-) I tapped under the shifter plate bolt.

It's good to have a ATO option fuse addin, this fuse needs to go into a spare slot in your fuse box under your hood. The red wire at the end of the fuse needs to be extended to the red wire on the motor. The black (-) wire I tapped under a nearby bolt on the chassis.

Thats it! If you done this correctly, holding the switch either way should make the pole go up/down and the L.E.D. should come on when it's fully extended.

(I need someone to host pictures for a step by step install !!! )

        ATO fuse

Things I forgot to mention, the ATO add a circuit fuse can be found at any Kragen or AutoZone in the fuse section. It looks like a black blank fuse with 2 addin fuse slots and a wire.

DO NOT DO A HALF ASS JOB!!! running the wires through your engine bay and through your firewall.....otherwise you'll be sorry later! It can be a electrical hazard and will also make your engine bay look shitty.

I suggest getting a drill and using the end to twist & braid the wires tight. I also suggest getting flexy coil plastic wire sleeves (like the oem wire covers) to protect and give the wires a little extra protection.

Another thing that I just thought of just now: For those of you who don't have a oem foglight plug. (this is the new rubber firewall plug that comes with your oem foglight harness which you'll be routing the pole wires through) You can still use the oem hard plastic plug! Just drill a hole through this. I highly recommend doing this instead of just running the wires through the firewall leaving a big gaping hole exposed.

The ends of the firewall over time will eventually keep sawing at your wires from moving around. This will lead to a short or electrical or fire hazards to your car!

ALSO DO NOT!!! get the mini-fuse version!! Our CB's use the PhAt fuses not the mini ones!

kurobei's way will only work if you use the civic/teg pole button, its a curved button with a green picture on the front, and it has both an UP and DOWN button on it (similar to the sunroof open/close button). the stock/jdm *ACCORD* button is a push-on/push-off button and doesnt have a green pic on the front (its just black and white), and wiring it kurobei's way wont do anything. you need a relay box setup to control it. i have a circuit planned out but i never built and tested it yet, i only have the pole and button mounted, but not working yet.

          standard ACCORD button:

^btw i have a seat heater button filling that hole

          civic/teg button:
dangit i cant find one, kurobei/93accordEX wanna post a pic of urs?

Lol good one Cpmike.....i forgot about that! Yeah... I originally bought a cb7 oem pole switch....but unfortunately the wrong item was sent to me in the mail! I got civic ferio corner lamp. The guy then sent me another pole switch...but it was a prelude switch (also with the green l.e.d picture) I could've been an ass and told the seller you sent me the wrong thing again.....but I kinda liked the colored button.

Sorry for the confusion but CPmike is right....this method will only work for a civic/integ/prelude rocker style pole switch.

B4 I got my pole switch, I used a prelude 89 Si Half Antenna switch. The pole will work with this switch as well.

Hahaha I did that once.... A guy was looking over at me in a civic hatch and I put up the pole. He did a double take on my pole and was so mezmorised, it distracted him so much I got the jump on green. =)

Hey can anyone tell me what the use of this pole in japan was used for????

I can only guess it was for the tight streets and parking they have?

Also , can anyone post pics of the pole up and down?

                    THANKS! this is interesting

Its for parking. Parking is tight in Japan; its to judge where the corner of the car is so that you don't run down the side of an Aristo pulling into a parking spot.

                          Bumper Pole Installation Manual

There is a bracket that comes with the pole the supports the pole to the bumper from the inside.

correct, also its light enough that if you tighten the metal cap that holds it through the bumper cover enough, itll stay without the bracket (in case you didnt get one)
