My first shoot with a Rebel SLR.

Ok so i wanted to make this thread to just get some critique on my pictures.

As some of you know ive been itching for an SLR...more notably the Rebel XT.

Well today a friend let me borrow her Digital Rebel 6mp SLR.

Since it wasnt my camera and i was pressed for time i wasnt able to adjust settings or learn the camera.

I just shot and hoped for the best.

So let me know what things i could do to improve or do different. And these were without a tripod as i didnt have on available but i do own one.

    Thanks!!

i am not alone! sorry i cant provide critiques here, but im in the same boat as you. I might be picking up a Nikon D40 soon just so i can get the hang of things. I figured it would be a good starter camera for me; especially the price. Im new to the whole DSLR thing...in the first 2 shots, it looks like you have the eye for good pics, im sure with a little practice, the shots will be clean as hell.
    for you

theyre pretty good for your first time and without a tripod....headlights during daylight always distract the hell out of me...so therefore, i would keep them off if at all possible, picture #1 is a little underexposed, and picture 2 the sky really takes away from the car, other then that i like them a lot.

That is a DSLR forum i got turned onto through AccordR33. Its new and there are some talented folks on there...that set was shot with a NikonD50 but nonetheless its fucking impressive.

        Thanks!

Yea ive just been trying to incorporate the headlights because i just installed my new yellow high beams so i dig em lol. But they are a pita to shoot.

And yea ive mastered shooting without a tripod because i had to do it for a carclub and i never bought one...but in the last few months ive gotten serious about photography so i picked one up....now i need an SLR LOL.

Maybe get an external Flash for nighttime? my friend just got a Nikon D40 w/ a flash for 800 from circuit city during black friday. He said the camera was 650 so the flash was 150. His pics turn out MUCH better with a bright flash like that, esp. at night.

Yea well this camera had a built in flash on top...i used it in a few shots but it didnt come out too good....

When i get 800$ for my camera, i will be investing in a good lens or two and an external flash.

great pictures nonetheless ralphie. you have a good eye for pictures. as lowakkord stated, the headlights on are a major distraction when it's not a full night shot. and another note, when you take pictures, try to eliminate telephone/electricity poles sticking out of your car like picture #2. it gets very distracting. #3 is a nice shot if it had better lighting and no glare to the lens. a major problem i saw was the lighting. you might be a little too underexposed. but practice makes perfect. nonetheless, great photo's.

i'm thinking of selling my rebel xt and getting a canon 5d..

not bad ralphie given that you had only so much time to work with it and being your first time. pic #1 and 2 is deffinately a good shot, exposure was just right just need to remember to turn off headlights next time and increase brightness on ps and its good pic.

jack is right about the poles. but in your case you can utilize it as the pic's compositions.

                            Thanks everyone!!!!

                            Awesome!!

Yea i wanted the poles to be part of the composition as well as that steel loom tunnel....suposedly that tunel lights up but it wasnt lit up when we drove through it.

But yea the headlights im going to chill outwith because that was just to show my new yellow high beams but they dont come out right.

And the underexposure etc was my fault im sure but yea i dont know the intracacies of the rebel. If i had it my way i would have taken over 1000 shots prior to get use to what each function does.....practice does make perfect and thats why i think ive got the "eye" as you guys put it because ive had my p&s for almost 4 years now and ive taken countless pictures with it, tried tons of different settings and different setups so when i get my own SLR itll be fun.

Those shots are pretty good and your friend is really nice to let them use the camera. I think the first shot is a lil under exposed and the background in the second picture takes away from the subject but that's just me though. You should be able to find a XT for about $500 bucks with the kit (18-35mm lens). I'm not exactly sure what they run now but I know they've gotten cheaper since the XTi came out not too long ago. I think I'm going to sell my camera and upgrade again, I'm not sure yet. You should go to school for photography your really good at it. I know I did. If you need anything else, PM me or AIM me. Peace and blessings homie!!
