That parks looks very pretty. Never been but I loved glacier national. In fact, I'm wearing a t-shirt from there right now. hah.

My typical subjects can be tough to capture. Read as: horrible, ever-changing lighting, split-second composition and exposure decisions, constantly getting jostled by the people around you and subjects that never stop moving. Try taking live concert photos without flash, and patience takes on a whole new meaning.

For the record, my live kit consists of:

Minolta Maxxum 5D DSLR
Minolta 50mm f/1.4 prime
Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX zoom
SanDisk Extreme III 4GB Compact Flash
Spare battery

I have more camera equipment than most people would reasonably want to spend money on. If I had put all of that money toward a car, let's just say I wouldn't be driving a near-stocker. I'm in for about $3G's each in camera equipment and lighting. I did a shoot for the car last night, but I've been having some trouble getting photos off the card lately, so it may take me a few days to get them uploaded. When I do, I'll post the best ones from the series. I'm pretty proud of how some of them came out.

^ wanna see some of your work, other than what you just posted. most of them are noisy and not to crisp, however #5 on your 1st post is really nice. i myself have spent over $2g on my stuff

really nice pics Camurai. i especially like the black and white ones. you did a pretty good job overall. i bet the prime lense came in really handy letting you open the aperture really wide and use a faster shuter speed. i actually dont mind the noise in the pics. it is not that evident and if he used flash the pic would loose the feel of the concert thats provided by the stage lights. i dont want to say impossible but its pretty damn hard t take a noise free crisp pic with no flash at a concert when nothing sits still.

JSpec, that photo is well composed, great depth of field, excellent atmosphere, and the subjects have a lot of interest to them. Like any good photo, it tells a story and makes you want to know more.

nghtrydr23, it's tough to get a really sharp shot in that kind of lighting unless you're using gear that costs about 4 times what I spent. I'm currently making do with what I have. A really tack sharp f/2.8 zoom and a pro-spec body would be great, but I'm a broke bastard, so I have to make do with a Sigma zoom and an amateur level body. I may be able to afford a better body one of these days. (If I can ever stop spending money on the car! =oP)

bowzil, I'm a Minolta lover to the core! My first "real" camera was a Minolta X700, and I remember my mother always carrying around an XD11 when I was a kid. Minoltas always seem to be a lot more user-friendly than most of the other systems.

Plus miscellaneous filters, spare batteries, memory cards and readers, gewgaws, etc. I lost track of how much miscellaneous stuff I've bought awhile ago. Now if I just had a computer that worked right, I'd be set.

Just as an aside, softboxes always seem to be a compromise. The Fotodiox box has high build quality, but it's a serious pain in the ass to put it together. The Dynaphos softboxes, on the other hand, are very easy to set up, but the quality for the most part is not that good. The 36x48" box in particular is absolute crap. The reflective lining was peeling before I ever received it, and it just feels flimsy. The 7' Octalume is much better, but because of its sheer size, it's a pain to assemble. I'm thinking about the new Light Gear USA foldable boxes, but I'd like to check one out before I buy it.
